HACT is proud to share the Age Friendly Programme’s latest report on how housing associations can promote the safety, independence and wellbeing of residents as they age. The report highlights a co-creation project undertaken with residents accessing an aids and adaptations service. Residents’ experiences point to the importance of intervening early, responding quickly and taking every opportunity to assess needs. The report delves into practical solutions, best practice, and the need for joined-up thinking and working. This is a must-read for anyone involved in community investment, housing management or asset management. That’s not a bed! This is about knowing what you want and doing what’s right for you. Here’s Kari. Kari has two beds, the run of the house, the garden and a summerhouse. Nevertheless, Kari has decided that this ornamental bush in our garden is exactly where she wants to be. In fairness, it looks like a good fit and she seems perfectly happy, so maybe I just don’t get it. When we set up HPC, we knew that a blend of transactional and advisory services was what we wanted to deliver. In particular, led by my co-director Nigel Newton Taylor, we identified that due diligence around care sector development would be increasingly required by investors, developers and operators. I tried to explain this latter concept to a contact in private equity at the time. His response? That’s not a business! Yet here we are, 15 years later, an award-winning independent practice with a stacked pipeline of work in a market where now, the idea of developing a care home without appropriate due diligence wouldn’t even enter anyone’s head. The lesson is, just like Kari, do what you know to be right for you and stick with it! #carehomes #socialcare #development #investment #consultancy
