June is Gun Violence Awareness Month. It’s the time to reflect on the lives lost and families forever changed by gun violence, honor the victims, support survivors, and advocate a future free from gun violence. Here’s why we must come together to address this issue: • Preventable Tragedies – many gun-related injuries and deaths are preventable through education, safe storage practices, and community interventions. • Public Health Impact – gun violence is a major public health crisis, leading to physical injuries, long-term disabilities, and emotional trauma for victims and their families. • Safety First – promoting responsible gun ownership and safe practices can significantly reduce accidental shootings, especially among children and adolescents. • Community Strength – by fostering a culture of awareness and prevention, we can create safer communities where everyone feels secure and supported. Join us in spreading the word and taking action. Together, we can make a difference and save lives. #MountSinai #MountSinaiMorningside #MountSinaiWest #WeFindAWay #NYC #Hospital #gunviolenceawareness #endgunviolence #injuryprevention #safecommunities

When two deadly epidemics conflate, the consequences are unfathomable. Domestic violence with gun access is deadly, and all too often, we see vulnerable lives taken by abusers with guns. June is Gun Violence Awareness Month, and in talking about gun violence, it is impossible to ignore its distinct correlation with domestic violence. We cannot leave victims and survivors out of the conversation - they must be held front and center in addressing the lack of protections that our communities face. Help us advocate for a better, safer future. Start by learning more about the correlation of gun violence and domestic violence at https://lnkd.in/gZHp-UF7 and follow along with CAWC as we identify the need, address the solutions, and provide options for advocacy! #GunViolence #GunViolenceAwareness Source: Everytown for Gun Safety

NEW TOOLKIT FOR BETTER REPORTING ON GUN VIOLENCE News coverage of gun violence can perpetuate harmful stereotypes and make it seem inevitable, but, as communicators, we have an opportunity to tell better stories to help minimize harm and make it clear that change is possible. This new toolkit, developed in partnership with our friends from the Philadelphia Center for Gun Violence Reporting (PCGVR) and the Stoneleigh Foundation, includes guidance to help communicators tell more complete, humanizing stories to build support for a public health approach to gun violence prevention. Take a look at the toolkit:

Gun violence is not normal, and Americans do not need to accept it as such. We have the tools, strategies, and people to prevent daily tragedies resulting from this violence. But for too long, the federal government has dramatically underspent on proven community-based programs that address the root causes of gun violence, while spending billions in reactive interventions after harmful and fatal incidents have already occurred. It’s time for a proactive approach. Tell Congress to pass the Break the Cycle of Violence Act now to provide federal grants for community violence intervention programs.
