#Rights | The Rohingya, a Muslim minority group from Myanmar, have suffered decades of persecution and violence in their home country. This has led to their mass exodus—primarily to Bangladesh, and in smaller numbers to India, Malaysia, Thailand, and other parts of South and Southeast Asia. According to a 2017 estimate by the Indian government, there are approximately 40,000 Rohingya refugees in India alone. Their condition in the country remains precarious, marked as it is by complex legal challenges, significant mental health concerns, economic difficulties, and uncertain prospects for their future. Persecution and deportation, coupled with the xenophobic narrative being propagated against them, has led to Rohingyas facing extremely poor socio-economic conditions, limited livelihood opportunities, human rights violations, lack of access to social entitlements such as food and education, and poor physical and mental health services, among other issues. The Rohingya community in India is disenfranchised, displaced, and invisibilised. This year for Trans Day of Visibility, all I want is a free Palestine. We cannot talk about trans liberation without the end of genocide - in Palestine, in the Congo, in Sudan. We cannot talk about trans liberation without First Nations landback. We cannot talk about trans liberation without the composting of capitalism and the end of exponential growth. We cannot talk about trans liberation without disability justice, recognition that COVID still exists and fundamental community care and an overhauled health system. We cannot talk about trans liberation without the end of the prison industrial complex and finding transformative ways of approaching accountability. I don’t care what pronouns people use while they are decimating lands, peoples and culture. All of our liberation is interwoven. Free us all.

"This study is valuable for researchers studying social movements, diaspora engagement and the migration-development nexus. It is also an interesting study for immigrant associations who would like to build a platform for diaspora engagement. It is readable for governments and international organisations who seek new ways to engage with diasporas in different policy areas." What a privilege to have a book review that so well follows the argument of my book 'Kurdish Diaspora Mobilisation in Denmark' and reach the conclusion above 😊
