Digitally-distracted TikTok obsessives? Salary-chasers who won't stick around? With every new generation to enter the workforce, a new set of societal stereotypes enters the spotlight and this has certainly been no different with Gen Z. Gen Z is the digital generation and they LOVE TikTok. They use it for everything from knowledge sharing to entertainment, and they're not afraid to share their experiences, including their work experiences. Whether employers like it or not, TikTok is a powerful platform for employee voices. Instead of trying to control how employees use their social media, focus on aligning your employer brand with your core values to reduce reputational risk. Take this viral story where a Gen Z employee used TikTok to expose their termination experience. The company in question had transparency as a core value. Here's how they could have potentially avoided the viral backlash by living this core value: ✔️ Transparent Communication: The manager should set precise performance expectations with defined KPIs and milestones to eliminate subjectivity in evaluations. ✔️ Early Intervention: Address concerns immediately when an employee falls short, outlining clear steps for improvement. ✔️ Documented Justification: Ensure any terminations are based on well-documented and justifiable reasons. This case serves as a lesson for all employers: Upholding your values and treating employees fairly is crucial for building and protecting your employer brand. Gen Z workers have taken to recording themselves getting fired and posting the videos on TikTok for all the world to see. Firings have spiked in media, retail and technology sectors in a move to trim costs after overfiring during the pandemic and as they invest in AI. Beyond drawing attention to an act that typically stays behind closed doors, the TikTok layoff videos also reflect how younger workers feel empowered by social media to speak out against their employers if they feel they're being treated unfairly. The reaction from social media has been mixed, with some supporting the employees and some supporting the organizations. Jason Dorsey, author of "Zconomy" and president of the Center for Generational Kinetics, told CBS News,” The main motive for many young people who share their personal trials and tribulations on social media is feedback, not monetization.” Gallup has found layoffs can have significant ripple effects on employees and business performance. It's crucial to support ongoing strategy and partnership conversations and create forums for discovering new opportunities. Nobody likes layoffs, but when they do happen it's important to perform them in a respectful way and offer emotional support. It's also important to evaluate future needs and how long it would take to build back capacity by letting someone go. #GenZ #layoffs #tiktok #workplace #feedback #employeeneeds #businessperformance #gallup https://lnkd.in/geEc_M8P

Driving Organizational Excellence through Internal Upskilling Initiatives | Senior Leader at the Forefront of Learning & Development Innovation
TikTok strikes again: AE laid off and records the heartless process. 🌟 My Sunday Leadership Insight: Treat Employees as Irreplaceable, Not Disposable🌟 🔍 The Replaceable Mentality: Viewing team members as easily replaceable is a short-sighted strategy. It might seem cost-effective in the immediate term, but it's a recipe for long-term failure. Why? Loss of Expertise: Every time an employee leaves, they take their knowledge, skills, and experiences with them. Cultural Impact: A revolving door of staff damages team morale and erodes trust in leadership. Reputation at Stake: In the age of social media, word spreads fast. A company known for treating employees poorly struggles to attract top talent. 🔄 The Boomerang Effect: Just as importantly, employees respond to how they're treated. If they feel disposable, their commitment and loyalty mirror that. They become less invested in the company's success, more open to other opportunities, and their productivity may decline. 🌱 Cultivating Irreplaceability: Recognize Individual Contributions: Acknowledge the unique skills and perspectives each team member brings. Invest in Development: Provide opportunities for growth and learning. Foster a Culture of Appreciation: Make your workplace one where people feel valued and integral to success. 🔗 The Bottom Line: Employees are the backbone of any business. When we treat them as irreplaceable, they respond with dedication, innovation, and loyalty. Let's build workplaces where everyone feels valued and essential. #Leadership #EmployeeEngagement #BusinessStrategy #WorkplaceCulture
