As we advance towards a net-zero future, the role of education and skill development becomes increasingly critical. Academics from Coventry University have highlighted the necessity for a more coordinated approach to equipping our workforce with the skills needed for this green transition: ✅ Unified strategy: A more integrated approach across industries, education, and government is essential to equip the workforce with the skills necessary for a sustainable future. 🔍 Focus on skills: There's a pressing need to focus on specific skills related to green technologies and sustainability to ensure that we have the expertise required to tackle climate challenges. 🙏 Collaboration: Increased collaboration between educational institutions, industry leaders, and policymakers will be crucial in creating effective training programs and career pathways. For those of us in recruitment and talent development, this is a pivotal moment to align our strategies with the future needs of the green economy. It's time to advocate for and invest in training programmes that will prepare our workforce for the emerging green jobs and technologies. #Morson #NetZero #Renewables #GreenSkills

🔐 Financial investment is the key in unlocking potential at UK-based universities aiming to reach net zero by 2050. This was the clear message at this week’s Universities, sustainability and the climate emergency 2024 online conference, which brought together staff working in sustainability and climate change from higher education institutions across the UK. Hosted by Universities UK, speakers from a variety of organisations presented on an array of topics, including our own Hayley Bristow-Grant who participated in a 45-minute session focused on investment in climate sustainability within institutions. Dozens of participants joined this week’s session, which tackled pioneering energy efficiency and user engagement in institutions, and transforming spaces with smart energy solutions. Hayley said: “There’s not a one-size-fits-all approach when it comes to the decarbonisation of your estate. It’s important to assess what the most appropriate solution is for your buildings, your campus and your people.” Read the full story on our website to hear more about Hayley's key messages and advice for higher education organisations who are looking for funding to support their decarbonisation journey: https://lnkd.in/eKAhzBtC #NetZero #Decarbonisation #Salix #PublicSector #NetZero #TeamSalix

Empowering the Next Generation: The Future of Sustainable Practices As we navigate the complexities of climate change, it's crucial that we prioritise educating and involving the next generation in sustainable practices. Our young minds are the future leaders, innovators, and change-makers who will shape the world we live in. Why Educating the Next Generation Matters By 2030, 75% of the global workforce will be comprised of millennials and Gen Z. They will be the ones driving the transition to a sustainable economy. Young people are more likely to adopt sustainable practices and advocate for environmental causes, leading to a ripple effect of positive change. Education and involvement from a young age can instill a sense of responsibility, curiosity, and passion for sustainability, setting them up for a lifetime of environmental stewardship. The Importance of Renewable Energy Independence Climate change is one of the most pressing issues of our time, and renewable energy is a crucial part of the solution. Road based energy generation, Solar, wind, hydro, and geothermal power can reduce our reliance on fossil fuels and mitigate carbon emissions. By involving the next generation in renewable energy solutions, we're not only ensuring a sustainable future but also fostering innovation and job creation. What We Can Do: Encourage schools and universities to incorporate sustainable practices and environmental education into their curricula. Support programs and initiatives that promote environmental awareness and education among young people. Mentor and provide opportunities for young professionals to develop their skills and knowledge in sustainable practices. Advocate for policies and regulations that support renewable energy independence and reduce carbon emissions. Let's Work Together to Empower the Next Generation Join me in this effort to educate and involve the next generation in sustainable practices. Let's work together to create a brighter future for all. Economist Impact and Iberdrola released a very interesting report on the demand for green skills in 4 key sectors for the #greentransition. The detail they go into is quite unique, as it breaks them down into: 🤝 soft skills 🌀 cross-sectoral skills 🔋 sector-specific skills Three key points I liked about this report are: 1. The recognition that soft skills are as important as hard / technical skills 2. The recognition of transferrable skills (referred to here as cross-sectoral skills), which speaks to the potential pivots which can occur within the green jobs sector 3. The answer to the question: What are the top 3 skills needed for green jobs? (I'll add the answer in the comments) #climatecareers #netzero
📈 Economist Impact recently released a report on the global outlook for green skills and the labor market, in collaboration with Iberdrola. The data analyzes trends across 4 key sectors which have been identified as major players in enabling the green transition: 🔋 energy, 💻 IT and technology, 👷🏽♀️ construction and infrastructure, and 🚚 transport and logistics. As others of its kind, the report indicates a #greenskills gap, meaning that in order to make the sustainability transition possible, there is a need to #upskill the workforce in these critical areas. However, the analysis conducted goes deeper into this question, as it discusses what exactly are green skills, the different types that exist, and how each of these might be applied. In the report, Economist Impact defines green skills as “the knowledge, competencies, values and attributes needed to develop and support a sustainable, low-carbon and resource-efficient society”. According to their findings, there are 3 types of green skills which will be needed in the future: Soft skills: such as creativity and environmental awareness Cross-sectoral skills: including sustainability reporting and environmental impact assessment, and Sector-specific skills: such as solar panel installation or green retrofitting. Additionally, the findings reveal that three most important soft skills to enabling green transition are environmental awareness, innovation and creativity, and problem solving. If you’re ready to upskill in these areas, come join us at Voiz Academy for the upcoming March cohort! The path to net-zero demands a skilled and motivated workforce, especially in industrial clusters. A recent report published by the University of Lincoln, funded by UK Industrial Decarbonisation Research and Innovation Centre, explored the knowledge, attitudes, and career aspirations of 11-18 year olds across South Humber and Lincolnshire regions. While climate change awareness is present, knowledge gaps exist around concepts like "net-zero" and decarbonization technologies. Most acknowledge responsibility to act sustainably but feel powerless to make a real difference. Concerningly, despite valuing jobs that "help people", few are inclined towards green careers. Teachers too lack sufficient training on sustainability topics. Clearly, more focused education efforts are needed to equip the next generation with the knowledge and motivation to drive the green transition. The findings guide workforce strategies by tailoring training, fostering industry-education collaboration, and informing policies to build a workforce ready for a net-zero future. Investing in climate literacy from a young age is crucial for industrial clusters to realize their decarbonization ambitions. #energy #energytrnasition #netzero #netzero2050 #sustainability #decarbonization #climatechange #greentransition #green #greenhydrogen #carbon #carbonemission #co2 #ghg
