Arias come in different shapes and sizes but in essence they are ‘songs’ in an opera and are used by the composer to communicate what characters are thinking and feeling. Many arias are lyrical and not unique to opera, as they also appear in oratorios, cantatas, and other vocal genres. In Conversation focuses on some of the well known and best lived arias in the operatic repertoire https://lnkd.in/gJ7XBvx9

Listen to excerpts or the entire operas they sang. You can put this book on your Iphone or Android as well as a Kindle or your laptop to hear and see them sing as you read about them! You say you’ve never heard of Selma Kurz? She was better known than Nellie Melba--in Vienna, certainly! Worldwide? Not so much. From Meyerbeer to Mozart, you can listen to Selma Kurz perform more than twenty-five different operatic selections. Over 700 Internet links and 200 hours of performances by famous and not-so-famous artists that author Limansky evaluates—their biographies, history, performances, and voices are described in technical detail. You can even get a Performance-Linked PRINT EDITION of "Early Twentieth Century Opera Singers." You say you can't click a link on a printed page? That's true, but we've devised the way to do that. Included in the price of the print edition you will get a PDF of the links, arranged in the order in which they appear in the book. You mount that PDF on your phone or laptop and click away as you read--just like the e-book. Buy it so you can see it and hear it as you read about it--Performance-Linked print and e-books by YBK Publishers. https://bit.ly/3vzws4X

Opera Australia - the most lavishly funded performing arts company in the country - is in a moment of real crisis. Its cross-subsidisation model - bankable musicals and heritage opera to minimally support contemporary work and artists - is in deficit and its leaders are in public disagreement as to why. The artistic director is gone but the board - mostly LinkedIn titans with little creative industries experience - remains. These are facts. They could start the rebuild by reading this The New York Times piece. Yuval Sharon is an opera prophet. He's directed work in a Los Angeles train station, a Detroit car park and the hallowed Bayreuth Festspielhaus. Rather than people drifting away from opera - too often a "reflection of a hierarchical and exclusionary society" - he says opera drifted away from them. Rather than disguising the artform, like a parent hiding veggies in the lasagna, you might imagine a program of work that relates all on its own. "Will that audience find a confirmation of the values we currently see in our world? Will the performance follow predictable pathways and leave old ideas unquestioned? Or will that audience encounter a surprising act of imagination, one that pushes us to think differently and to listen in new ways? Will the strangeness and audacity of what they see spur them to imagine a different world? There’s no reason to expect any less of opera."
Opera Doesn’t Have to Be an Elite Art Form. Here’s Why.

Performing arts:In the 1600s Opera started to flourish in Italy. French opera was popular for adding the element of dancing to opera other than the already existing elements such as singing and music. In Italian, opera means works and in Latin it means the plural of labor. This means that there can be duet, trio, and group singing. It also utilizes various aspects of the spoken theater, like costume and backdrop. Greek were the first known theater artists especially people from Athens. Their theater plays included all the elements like acting, dialogues, singing, scene, dancing, chorus and music. #performingarts

Friday Arts … Springboard Opera had its first night out a-month-and-a-bit ago. The first Springboard Opera Thing! And this is what it looked like on the night… https://lnkd.in/gWzHSiA4 The first ever Springboard Opera Gala in fabulous Brisbane. And in the spirit of doing it differently, it was opera, but not opera. Some, but not all, of the Springboard Opera young (and talented) human beans were introduced to Brisbane in a fabulous star-studded night of music, theatre and general cool-ness. If you missed out, you’ll have to wait for the next Springboard Thing. And because no man is an island – thanks for the words, John Donne – we are not so much creating an arts organisation as a 21st century Arts Ecosystem that thrives on innovation. Ecosystems imply lots of interconnectedness. Between all the parts. Side-to-Side and Front-to-Back. So the innovation needs to flow Side-to-Side and Front-to-Back. And to make this work, all those parts matter equally. One of the things that was said at the Gala was “Singing optional”. That is because we need skills and INNOVATION everywhere. And with that – a bit of fractured Dr Suess, this time – Oh, the places We’ll go! If you are up for a bit of Amaze-balls stuff… Come down and see us at https://lnkd.in/gXgNVTGg – it is going to be WILD! Singing Optional. #Future #TransformationalLeadership #LeadershipDevelopment #Directors #Technology #Performingarts #YourNetworkForLife

"Farewell My Concubine" is a traditional Chinese opera. It tells the story of the Chu-Han contention period. The main characters include Xiang Yu, Yu Ji and Liu Bang. This play has a very high status on the Chinese opera stage and is known as "the best of Chinese opera". In terms of performance form, "Farewell My Concubine" is usually presented in the form of Peking Opera, but some local operas also have corresponding performance versions. The performance of this play is usually very intense. The actors express the emotions and storyline of the characters vividly through singing, acting, reciting, fighting and other skills. In addition, "Farewell My Concubine" is also a play with very cultural connotations. It is not only a historical story, but also a heritage of culture and tradition. This play has an important position in China's cultural life. Many people know about it and have a high evaluation of its performance and storyline. In short, "Farewell My Concubine" is not only a drama, but also a heritage of culture and tradition. Through the performances and storylines of the actors, people can feel the charm and essence of Chinese traditional culture.

OPERA: STAY BOLD / EXPERIMENT! Too many articles portray opera in the light of solemn tradition, inadvertently brushing aside the fact that opera, from the silly to the sublime, has always been a place of experimentation. Opera doesn’t belong to a single narrative or style. It thrives on variety, something that supports artists’ freedom to experiment and tailor different productions to diverse audiences. There’s beauty in a more inclusive understanding of opera—one that sees value in attempts to preserve traditions or push boundaries (please!). This doesn’t compromise opera’s integrity; it enhances it, making the art form more alive and resonant with a wider audience. I’m excited by those visionary directors - like Ella Marchment - who understand opera’s capacity to adapt and innovate, revealing that its future lies in its ability to offer something for everyone, through a kaleidoscope of different voices and visions. #Opera #ArtisticFreedom #EmbracingDiversity #classicalmusic no

Last Sunday, BrisVegas was treated to the second Springboard Opera Barefoot opera. Changing everything (Opera) into the C21 way… It was fabulous fun – kind of audience participation opera - and if you do not have a lot of opera experience, come along to the next one in Toowoomba (check out our website…) But that is not what today is about. Springboard Opera … changing everything into the C21 way… Opera in 2024 has a bit of an image problem … a bit fancy-pants and high-brow, expensive & inaccessible. So, we at Springboard have set out to change that. Barefoot Opera is … well… really affordable, has drinks, and is in the community. And lots of fun! We do this to challenge people who do not “do” opera… in the Springboard world, opera is not even asking you to get out of your comfort zone. Opera for Everyone … Opera in unexpected ways in unexpected places. Innovation is a big deal for Springboard. In everything. And in our connected world, we think that everything is connected. Like the way that the organisation runs, is financed, what its culture is. So not just the arts end of the show. Because you can’t transform just part of the Opera Idea – it is all or nothing. This is Springboard Opera… different, innovative and exciting, and that is why it is called Springboard … We are leaping into a new world – in everything that we do. If you are interested in the Springboard Thing, jump on over to https://lnkd.in/gXgNVTGg, ‘cos we are always ready to for a chat. #Future #TransformationalLeadership #LeadershipDevelopment #Directors #Technology #Performingarts #YourNetworkForLife Leslie Martin Luisa Tarnawski Gheorja Haidley Sue Park
