Social Media Manager | Content Creator | Brand Social Strategist | Organic Social Media | Influencer Marketing
Please stop telling Social Media professionals their job isn't hard. You are discrediting the work of a lot of individuals. Social media is more than just posting. It takes strategy, trial and error, being able to adapt constantly to new social media changes, and a special level of creativity. (There is a lot more but, I don't want to be here all day) Social media professionals are passionate about Social Media Management/Marketing, community and being a creative. Don’t be one of those people who discredits someone’s passion or career. The amazing social media campaigns and brands you see daily killing it on socials don’t create themselves. It’s months of work, failures, reworking strategies, moving deadlines around, content creation, collaborating with other departments, community & crisis management, late nights, etc. We are marketing professionals and should be seen as such. Also, if it was so easy everyone would do it.
I think the "everyone would do it" is the part that trips people up. They think the posting they do casually is on par with what we do professionally. I love smashing that assumption into a million pieces.
It’s true. It also takes a lot of research and dedication as well. It isn’t just “writing and posting”. A lot of people may want to take entry-level positions like content writers/coordinators etc because people seem to think anyone can do content. It’s true but not everyone is that patient, willing to do a lot of trials and hard work needed for long term results
Well said, working in social media and making it work has been way harder than any job I have done in television. It’s stressful, you need to be an octopus handling 1000 things at once and stay on top of trends that change every second. Not to mention doing 1000 jobs in one. It’s very rewarding though and you get to work on dream projects you will remember forever, but easy, is not.
The behind-the-scenes of crafting a successful social media presence is often overlooked. It's not just about posting pretty pictures; it's about understanding your audience, analyzing data, and constantly evolving strategies to stay ahead. The hustle behind the scenes is real, and it's time we acknowledge the hard work that goes into it. Thanks for shedding light on the complexity of our field! 💪🏼🌟
“Hard” is subjective. “Hard” is calculus, digging ditches, serving lattes to rude genZ; “ Hard” is NOT typing on a laptop superfluous non sequiturs
The contributions from social media professionals are invaluable. I've had the honor of collaborating across marketing channels and clearly see this type of misrepresentation of what you all do (as you mentioned). I know for a fact that I could not pull off what you all are able to do, which is why i defer to the experts and go to bat for anyone I partner with. 💃
It’s not for the faint hearted, I think people who don’t see the hard work and value that goes into it before the finished product are coming from a place where there is a gap in their knowledge when it comes to the field and it sort highlights that when making disheartening comments.
This sentiment has also made me so aware of how I speak about other teams- ensuring there is respect for their work and their time. If people wanna disrespect social that is one thing but I can make sure I don't do the same to others.
Totally agree! Managing social media is way more than just posting pics real quick on Instagram; it's about being creative, staying adaptable, and nailing those platform strategies. Just to name a few things!

5moThe other thing I hear all the time is, "It's not even a real job— your job is, what, Instagram?" It's like the advertising/marketing equivalent of being a bartender; because you work (on a surface level) with tools that people use in their everyday life, they assume it's a job that anyone can do without any training. Drives me bonkers.
