Mindhealthdimensions celebrated their 2nd year anniversary in October 2023. The experience of starting a private practice was real and overwhelming to me. I started with a mind of focussing on low cost and free ways to promote a practice. There were many reasons for this, but the main one was that the practice started during the end of the pandemic, and this had affected the economy globally. There were many changes during the pandemic, and we were all adjusting to the recovery stage and the new normal. Therefore, for me this was trial by fire to navigate to where I am today. Just sharing what I have learnt so far: 1. How to gauge when my cup is full first, in my personal energy and in my appointment space. Therefore, self-care and self-compassion has been high on my list for these last three years. 2. To value the people that consult with me, finding their own path, and their own answers with me walking parallel to them. 3. To be aware and know that I am not a fixer and don’t have all the answers although I may be creative about a suggestion or two. 4. That I am OK and aware of the individual differences in resilience to stress, that build and make individuals to cope with life. Therefore, on Celebrating and Honouring Resilience I share this quote: “Never forget how far you’ve come. Everything you have gotten through. All the times you have pushed on even when you felt you couldn’t. All the mornings you got out of bed no matter how hard it was. All the times you wanted to give up, but you got through another day. Never forget how much strength you have developed along the way.” tinybuddha.com

Many meetings I have with leaders about building in a palliative approach for each of us as we become more frail often goes like this... They will tell me a story of how our system didn't honour a family member or friends wishes/ didn't ask/ how they went through dreadful crisis. Then there is usually a pause. After the pause the leader in their sector usually says we cant change because it's not yet a "priority". Or that "we" don't yet have the "data" to change our system. How awfully sad. That transparency and kindness has to be a "system priority" or burnout, tears and overcapacity isn't yet seen as data for changing those priorities. Or that we pivoted on a dime for an invisible virus. For our feeling of fear. Yet we deny our other emotions, feelings and the very essence of our stories. Deny each other. The absolute certainty of our own feelings and our future. Denied. And then the meeting goes into "not me" so "not we" so "not soon" but definitely what "we all will need sometime".... so sad. Feelings are our seed for opportunities. We do have to act. "We" starts with me. Me and you doing what our feelings tell us are the right thing to do. Bravely honouring feelings before paying homage to where a broken system tells you how to warehouse your or each others stories, passion and feelings. Because there's never a better time like now. Florence Nightingale’s quote, emphasises the importance of translating emotions and intentions into meaningful actions. Nightingale, known for her pioneering work in nursing, believed that simply expressing feelings was insufficient. Instead, she advocated for channeling these emotions into tangible efforts that produce positive outcomes. This perspective highlights a pragmatic approach to life, where the value lies not in what we say, but in what we do. It serves as a reminder that impactful change and progress come from active engagement and purposeful deeds! It starts with a conversation. DM me to have a chat.

Compassionomics How have you practiced compassion in your work or life this week? The beautiful concept compassionomics explains the science that being good at your role is not enough, as it is the quality of your relationships: the way in which you connect with others, which makes a truly impactful difference in the world. Connection matters: when you are in service to others (including your clients, patients, customers, readers, listeners, students, colleagues, loved ones, etc), to experience the best outcomes from your presence and work, it is the quality of this connection which is important. And this depends on factors such as your choice of words, the actions you take, and how you convey kindness and caring. All the types of qualities which make up compassion, and which will help ensure that all those you are in relationship with will want to continue to be relationship with you. Compassion builds loyalty, and is the currency of the future. The evidence for their new term of “compassionomics” is presented by physician scientists Dr Stephen Trzeciak, MD and Dr Anthony Mazzarelli in their book “Compassionomics: The Revolutionary Scientific Evidence that Caring Makes a Difference” which is full of real life stories where compassion has made a difference, including saving lives. Trzeciak says, “Once you realize how powerful you are just through the act of caring, you’ll want to get better at compassion every day.” Beautiful. I transform lives amid serious illnesses, tending to physical, emotional, and spiritual needs | Consultant in Palliative Care | Assisted Living Facility | Counselling
The tapestry of life is woven with threads of joy, sorrow, and everything in between. We all journey through this tapestry, experiencing its vibrant colors and its shadowed corners. When the threads of life begin to fray, the tapestry can feel fragile, the colors muted. This is where the concept of 'life after life' takes on profound meaning. It's not about denying death, but embracing the possibility of extending life, of weaving new threads into the tapestry, even when it seems nearly impossible. It's about ensuring that every individual, regardless of their health status, has access to the utmost love, care, and medical expertise that can help them live their final days with dignity and comfort. We believe that every human being has an intrinsic right to live, and that includes the right to a dignified death. This right is not just a personal choice, but a societal responsibility. We must create a world where individuals are not forced to face their final days alone, where families are empowered to provide love and support, and where medical professionals are equipped to offer compassionate care. This is the true meaning of 'life after life': extending the tapestry of life as far as possible, with love, care, and respect for the individual's journey. Let us extend our support, and make life matter, even in its final moments.

We are used to getting an annual check-up with our physical doctors. We have annual reviews at work. We might even do relationship check-ins with our partners. But how often do you check in with yourself? Regularly touching base with your Self is key to our overall sense of well-being. Some categories to reflect on are: General life satisfaction, how is your body feeling, what can I forgive?; what can I be grateful for? Asking your Self questions helps deepen your self--knowledge. The better you know your Self, the better you can reset .. #GilzaFort #SelfCheckIn

Chief Executive Officer | Accredited Specialist Family Law | Leadership, Business Development, Keynote Speaking
Your thoughts? During my recent convalescence following surgery, I found myself with ample time to reflect on my career, life choices, and motivations. It was a period of introspection, and my thoughts gravitated towards one of my key motivations for all the choices I now make in my career: making a difference for future lawyers. When I started The Family Law Education Network of Australia the key theme and motivation, was to improve the way family lawyers practice thus increasing mental health, reducing trauma and facilitating long term and healthy careers in the area. I work hard on a daily basis to advocate on behalf of my colleagues and to open up new ways of practicing. This contemplation then sparked a question—how and what can we change to increase our happiness in your personal and professional lives? In considering my own journey, I began to think about my colleagues. What do they need right now? How can I contribute to their well-being and professional fulfillment? If they could pinpoint something that would make their practice easier, simplify their choices, and guide them towards a future they are excited about, both personally and professionally, what would it be? I invite you to engage in this conversation. Share your thoughts and ideas on what changes could enhance our collective happiness and success. Together, we can shape a more fulfilling future for ourselves and the legal community. The more feedback I can gather from my colleagues, the more I can do and harness my network for the fulfilment and betterment of all :)
