My take on the attached thread: AI-driven auto-apply technologies (e.g., applyall) make recruiters work harder by essentially forcing them to increase their manual (I said it) engagement. Take-home point for job seekers: Do. The. Work. I was on the job market during this crazy period of layoffs and economic instability within the last six months, after being laid off after an acquisition, and searching for employment as an Account Executive. I can tell you just how very brutal the application and interview process was, and many of us have seen numerous posts about it on LinkedIn. The first job I was laid off, due to an acquisition. Purely a business decision. The second job, was simply not a good match as per my skill-set and expertise. I set out to find a job that was not only better suited for my experience, but also something more rewarding! I was interviewing for a myriad of sales jobs specifically within the HR-tech space, when I realized that so many companies were doing it all wrong! Yes, an AE role is a sales specific role, and sales is based on numbers. However, most companies interviewing were going through a "screening process" where they would have an initial interview round asking specific numbers of revenue and business closed without any additional context to the sales process, the product complexity, or brand recognition. This was mind-blowing to me because it makes no sense. How can you compare someone selling a luxury software to someone selling an essential software? You simply cannot compare numbers from completely different industries like that!!! This is like saying that the sales person selling Ferraris is inferior to the sales professional selling Toyotas on the basis of the number of cars sold(both great cars within their specific lanes). But how can you possibly compare the two sales professionals on the basis of pure numbers? There is a variety of soft skills and hard skills that vary among sales professionals. I understand! You had 1,000-2,000 applicants per job in some cases, and you just needed some kind of screening process. Trust me, I talk to hiring managers every day in my new job and it has been both eye-opening & jaw-dropping seeing things from the other side. I feel your pain. I am here to tell you that there is a MUCH BETTER way of doing things. The better way is by focusing on hiring from a skills-first approach -hard skills & soft skills. I say this from the perspective of an applicant as well as the hiring team, and certainly from the perspective of the company's ROI! I am here to tell you that there is a much more effective way of finding a solid employee for your organization in the chaos of the current market.
