Capgemini is Navigating the Autonomous Telco Networks Odyssey: Challenges, Benefits, and Strategies The journey towards autonomous telco networks presents immense opportunities for operational efficiency, cost savings, and enhanced customer experiences. With comprehensive strategies, investment in talent development, and a commitment to innovation, telcos can navigate this transformative journey successfully, positioning themselves for future competitiveness and sustainability. • Autonomous Network Maturity Levels: The TM Forum's model defines six levels, ranging from manual management to fully autonomous networks. • Telco Aspirations: Majority (61%) aim for Level 3 autonomy by 2028, with only 1% targeting Level 5. Investment in autonomous networks expected to reach $87 million on average over the next five years. • Leadership and Strategy: Few organizations (15%) have dedicated leaders for autonomous networks, and only 17% have comprehensive transformation strategies. • Challenges: Cultural mindset, integration issues, data sovereignty, and lack of technological maturity pose significant barriers. • Benefits: Improved operational efficiency, OpEx savings, reduced energy consumption, and enhanced customer experience are among the tangible benefits. • Leading Telcos: Those with advanced autonomous network strategies outperform in OpEx reduction and time-to-market for new services. • Sustainability: Autonomous networks contribute to energy optimization and reduced carbon emissions, with potential for significant environmental impact. ACTION PLANS : • Low Adoption Rate: Majority of telcos lag behind in autonomous network adoption, with only a fraction having robust strategies and leadership. • Cultural Challenges: Resistance to change and traditional operational mindsets hinder progress, requiring significant efforts in workforce upskilling and mindset transformation. • Technological and Regulatory Hurdles: Integration issues, data sovereignty concerns, and regulatory challenges add complexity to the transformation journey. Autonomous Networks journey is still very far from being completed. Large Telecoms I worked with started some time ago but the complexity and the investments needed to go full-programmable-network and automation/orchestration translated in many roadblocks, abandoned projects and only a few real success. But is not only about technology hurdles, actually were even more important have been the organizational, political, and mindset aspects. I saw more successful initiatives in medium size telecoms, where they had less business issues, thanks to strong top-down decisioning, and less infrastructure (legacy networks) obstacles. As often happens, the Cultural Change is what slow down evolution and innovation. Here win Capgemini we are shaping the future of Networks with Intelligence, take a look at the report.

! New report just released ! Hot topic for the #telco industry. The report found that some of the biggest obstacles hindering progress toward autonomy are the mindset of employees, integration issues, and regulatory concerns around data sovereignty. Indeed never enough to emphasize the fact that beyond being a techno transformation it requiers a cultural shift (and also organization, skills & processes) that do not have to be underestimate. #cloudnativetelco #telcocloud #ai #networkautomation
Self-configuration, self-monitoring, self-optimizing, self-healing: the next frontier in telco networks management with automation? Check out this new report from the #Capgemini Research Institute, "Networks with intelligence: Why and how the telecom sector should accelerate its autonomous networks journeys". It provides comprehensive insights into the importance of autonomous networks for telcos and how these autonomous networks are best implemented. At a time where telcos are looking to improve the economic return on network investments, looking back at the benefits reaped by early adopters of network automation is eye-opening: - over the past two years, operators have already realized a 20% improvement in operational efficiency and an 18% reduction in network operation expenditure (OpEx) through autonomous networks initiatives. - Additionally, 71% of operators have reduced energy consumption during this period, while they expect to lower greenhouse gas emissions by 30% over the next five years. The report also found that telcos anticipate investing an average of $87 million in autonomous networks over the next five years, with estimated OpEx savings of $150 million-$300 million per organization during this period. Furthermore, the return on investment (ROI) of autonomous networks initiatives ranges from 1.7x to 3.4x, with a payback period of between 2.9 to 1.5 years in conservative and optimistic scenarios.

Chief Portfolio Officer at Capgemini | Head of Global Business Lines | CX, Cloud, Data&AI, Cybersecurity
The growing number of connected devices are making networks more complex than ever. Increasing pressure on network resources means that the widespread adoption of autonomous networks is now critical for maintaining high standards of customer experience. Our latest report finds that telcos understand the importance of this shift, and are expected to invest $87 million on average in autonomous networks over the next five years, with 60% of leaders indicating they are interested in exploring the potential of #GenerativeAI. However, despite this willingness to invest, only 17% of telcos have a comprehensive autonomous network strategy in place. In order to successfully transition from manual to autonomous network operational models, telcos need a well-defined strategy covering people, technology and innovation. It’s time now to combine the power of today’s advanced networks with technologies such as AI and cloud to help organizations foster continuous innovation and drive sustained value for their business. Next week, join our experts at #MWC24 to know more about our services that enable organizations to unlock value through network technology.
