I'm often excited to think about how we work, not just what we do. It turns out that such knowledge in my professional bubble hides under the term "Design Leadership." I'm grateful for the opportunity to attend the Leading Design London. So, here are a few key takeaways I've chosen after reviewing my conference notes during my flight back. 1. Be human, not just a human being. We are vulnerable individuals seeking to belong. I truly empathized with Eric Snowden and Lauren Currie keynote. As a core foundation of our complex work, we need to open up, be honest, and take care of ourselves. Leadership is not about bossing others around; it's about being emotionally intelligent. It's not about hustling for others at the expense of losing ourselves. Our time investment must be sustainable for ourselves. 2. Get used to trade-offs and paradoxes. The design will not solve everything in the world. Once we set the mental stage, let's tackle the problem zone. There are problems, and then there are paradoxes. We can solve the first ones but have to accept the latter ones. As Hugo Cornejo says the best part is that we can always choose where we focus our attention, on truly meaningful challenges or fast-dopamine-driven, low-hanging fruits. 3. Make your services visible because invisible ones can't be intentionally designed. I have been investing the last year or two in this, and as reminded by Lou Downe, every designer should work towards creating visible services and experiences. Often, we think we know the full user journey, but is it true? Invisible services and experiences can't be designed and improved. Keen to be in the next Leading Design conferences and I want to extend kudos to the Clearleft team and Rebecca Groves for putting together this experience! #designleadership #servicedesign #leadership

The Design Thinking & Innovation Week 🚀 in London 🇬🇧 by the Future London Academy was such an incredibly rich and inspiring experience that a complete list of my takeaways would be endless. In four days, we learned from some of the most exciting leading agencies in London how they use innovative tools and creativity to tackle the opportunities and challenges of our world. Through exciting presentations and workshops, we were able to try the tools and techniques together. And all of this in a group of 30 wonderful, warm, and inspiring design leaders from around the world. The exchange with this diverse and open group alone has given me so much. Thank you! 🩷 I'll still give it a try with my top 3 insights from this week: ⭐️ Innovation arises through co-creation by people who bring different perspectives and experiences. AI tools can only support this process. ⭐️ It is worth investing a lot of time and energy into the "Discover" phase. It's completely okay if the process is chaotic and confusing. In the end, this is the only way to truly understand the actual problem. ⭐️ Storytelling and design are essential when it comes to motivating people with new ideas and messages. This is the only way we can change the world.
