Many times our BPM #Travelmedics reach out to us for a break between assignments because we often have extended contracts in place we have to service; some of our locums medics are on these assignments for months at a time. Being assigned away from home can be a real challenge. There's the obvious physical distance, of course, but there's also the emotional toll it can take. Missing important events, family gatherings, or just the comfort of your own space can be tough. And let's not forget the time zone struggle—it's like trying to keep up with two different worlds. Add to it that our medics are sometimes supporting two households and it can be a stressful situation if it occurs for an extended period of time. Then there's the flip side. The camaraderie with your fellow #travelparamedics can be a silver lining. Shared experiences and the bond formed in challenging situations can create friendships that last a lifetime. Plus, technology has made it a bit easier to stay connected with loved ones through video calls and messages. But it's not the same as being there in person. The pay scales are generally higher than regional pay, the hours are variable, but not unbearable, and most of our assignments offer generous overtime availability. ❗️RIGHT TO CARERS LEAVE❗️ From 6 April 2024, an employee will be entitled to take 1 week unpaid carers leave in any 12 month period. 👉An employee is entitled to this leave from the first day of their employment. 👉It applies to employees who have a dependant with long-term care needs and they need to be off work to provide care or to arrange care. 👉Employees must give notice in writing - giving atleast twice the amount of notice than the period requested. 👉Employer’s can postpone the request due to business needs, but they must give notice and consult with the employee. 👉Employees are protected from being dismissed or put at a detriment because of taking or seek to taking carers leave. ⚡️Employers need to keep an eye on this change in the lead up to 6 April 2024 and make sure that managers are aware of this right and the procedure to be followed. Implementing a new policy will also be necessary.⚡️

The New York City Department of Consumer and Worker Protection (“Department”) issued a Final Rule amending the Earned Safe and Sick Time Act (“ESSTA”) to align with the statutory amendments made by the 2020 New York State Paid Sick Leave Law. The amendments took effect on October 15, 2023.
