Tragically, nearly nine Australians are lost to suicide every day. For every life lost, around 135 people are impacted, including family, friends and colleagues. In our next Vivo webinar, James Gallacher, lead facilitator and mentor with Roses in the Ocean, will share his lived experience with suicide and how communication and connection can help save lives. While this conversation will cover challenging topics, the overarching message is one of hope. Register for free today and share with your friends, colleagues, and loved ones who may benefit: https://lnkd.in/gTkCDEfi #RUOKanyday #SuicidePrevention #BreakTheSilence

Fantastic reminder of the extensive support options there are available to those suffering with mental health issues. Mental illness is tough, sometimes I can feel so low, and I wonder if I'm ever going to pull myself back up and keep going - but I do. A saying I love - 'this too shall pass' - and it does, but there is no shame seeking support. When I was a PSHE teacher, the last school I worked in was a school where the majority of students were of Asian origin. As part of an in-depth study for a qualification I was working towards, I decided to focus on mental health for my final essay. It was incredibly sad to find when hosting focus groups and one to one conversations with students, that there was still such a stigma towards mental health. I remember a girl in my tutor group saying to me 'mental health isn't a thing in my culture!'. Mental health really is 'a thing' and the more open people are about their mental health issues, the better. We are at crisis point in the UK with mental health issues across all age groups. When I was a SENCO almost 20 years ago, to get a student seen by CAMHS, you had no chance of success unless it specifically said in the referral that they were self-harming/suicidal! CAMHS has always been under enormous pressure and under resourced and the impact of the pandemic is still evident. I do hope the new government will priortise mental health - and work to reduce the stigma that is still attached to mental illness. As a certified life coach and a PSHE teacher, I work with teenagers who are experiencing issues. I’m not a mental health specialist or counsellor, but I have found that coaching can be helpful in supporting young people who are facing a variety of issues. I was a teacher for 25 years, I have extensive special needs experience and while I often support young people with their future career, I also offer support for all the typical teenage issues that arise, including dealing with stress, anxiety, improving relationships, confidence, self-esteem as well as managing examination stress/improving revision and exam techniques. Feel free to reach out if you have a teenager who is struggling who might need some support. https://lnkd.in/gHbt8sMm. I offer a free 30 minute chat to assess whether coaching would be a good fit for your teenager. Keep strong and seek support and help. You are not alone! 💙 #mentalhealthmatters #teencoach #mentalhealthstigma #reducestress #confidence #wellbeing
I had a monumentally bad day on Tuesday. To the extent that all the bad thoughts in my head came flooding back. All the progress I'd made fell away and I wanted to not be here anymore. Two days later, I'm still here. I don't want to be, but I'm working on it. We all suffer setbacks. Some worse than others. Day by day. -- If you're struggling, the following organisations can help: Text Shout UK on 85258 Call Samaritans on 116 123 Call SOS Silence of Suicide 0808 115 1505 Call PAPYRUS Prevention of Young Suicide on 0800 068 4141 or Text 88247 Call Campaign Against Living Miserably on 0800 58 58 58 Text YoungMinds on 85258 #mentalhealthmatters #mensmentalhealthmatters #mentalhealthawareness #mentalhealth

In a lifetime, we embark on a journey marked by significant milestones. Yet, for too many, this journey is abruptly cut short by the tragedy of suicide. Every year, over 6,000 lives in the UK are lost to suicide. Each number represents a person with a story and dreams left unfulfilled. This is not just another number. It’s a wake-up call. We must act now. Join us in our mission to work towards a ‘zero suicide society’. Together, we can ensure that more journeys are celebrated, not mourned. #zerosuicidesociety #justanothernumber #suicideprevention https://lnkd.in/eCpjpr4q
