From injury prevention to building mental resilience, proper conditioning is the foundation of success in sports. Ever pondered the secret recipe behind athletic prowess? Numerous articles delve into the intriguing concept of the 'Athlete Triangle,' where athletes, parents, and coaches unite as a formidable trio. Each member plays a crucial role, whether it's on or off the field/court. But amidst these roles lie heavy responsibilities, presenting a challenge: how does one effectively fulfill their duties amid limited resources? inadequate knowledge? and a myriad of other obligations each Club, Coach, and Parent has? Skill, Physical, and Mental development are the cornerstone pillars of an athlete's journey. Each demands personalized attention, whether for elite athletes or youth, and proves essential not only for success but also for sustained well-being. Now, consider this: Given that Burnout and Injuries are primary factors prompting athletes to step away from team sports, why does Skill development continue to receive predominant focus? Tap the link in our bio to learn here how we can help. #team_sports #athletic_development #mental_development

An athlete in the gym the other day happily started rattling off the improvements he’d gone through over the last 9 months. “When I started I could only squat X, now I’m doing Y, but I’m doing it for reps”. That type of thing. I could have said something like “that’s because my program is so good, you need to stick with me” but that’s BS. I could have pointed out that strength is only one aspect of physical performance and we need to make sure we develop them all in balance. But that’s a bit of a buzzkill. I could have pointed out his weaknesses or compared his numbers to more advanced athletes, but I’m not an a-hole! I said “that’s because of all your hard work and consistency, awesome work, keep it up”. Hopefully that approach helps him to build some trust in himself, keep showing up and keep working hard. We’ll dig in over the next few years and pinpoint weaknesses, shore up his strengths and make sure it’s all in the context of the sport. But at the time, a little positively and celebrating his efforts seemed like the right call. It often is. #strengthandconditioning #strengthandconditioningcoach #strengthcoach #sportsscience #athleticdevelopment #physicalperformancecoach #bepositive

All the… Pitching coaches. QB coaches. Catching coaching. Shooting coaches. Club sports teams. Elite training centers. Have it all backward! They train the position or sport first. Plugging each athlete into their cookie-cutter program. The problem is the athletes are probably not ready or even need it. Instead, train the human first, then the athlete, then the sport, then the position. Let your kid become a good human first. Dialing in nutrition, sleep, and being able to move properly. Then get them more athletic. Being able to sprint, jump, throw, crawl, roll, hop, skip, climb, and a bunch of other athletic movements. This allows them to become better at their sports or positions. Even if they only play one sport they should be efficient in other sports and movements because it helps them become better movers and problem solvers. This is what we do in our Youth Athletes 4 Life program. We help kids become better athletes through nutrition, sleep, habits, and a training program that is built for them! We don’t plug them into a cookie-cutter program built for someone else. We design a plan that meets them where they are and progress at their pace. If you want your athletes to start being better athletes, get them started with TAG! Now that the new year has started, many people will be implementing their resolutions in hopes of making a tremendous change in their lives. Instead of jumping in head first, let's take a step back and reassess those new year goals to increase your chances of success! Be SMART! First, make that goal specific. Want to lose weight....how much? Want to workout more...how many times per week and for how long? Second, make sure that goal is measurable. This makes the goal more effective than ones that are difficult to quantify. Third, your goal needs to be achievable and action oriented. Target your behaviors rather than just outcomes. Fourth, goals need to be realistic. Always consider your capabilities but never short change yourself. Lastly, the goal needs to involve a timeframe. The time sensitivity of a goal relates to its achievability and all goals should have an end date. Remember, goals take time and commitment. It's important to make a plan and stick to that plan until the goal is complete. You don't have to start the resolution right away! Take the time to develop your plan so you can increase your chance of obtaining that goal! Battista, Rebecca, et al. ACSM's Resources For The Personal Trainer 5th Edition. "Look, playing multiple sports is great—it builds versatility, improves different skill sets, and makes you a better overall athlete. But here’s the thing: your body isn’t a machine. You can’t just grind year-round without taking some time to rest and recover. If you’re jumping from football straight into basketball, or track, without giving your body the proper downtime, you’re setting yourself up for burnout or even worse—injuries. And once you’re injured, you're on the sidelines, missing opportunities to compete and get better. Rest isn’t a weakness; it’s part of the process. That time off between seasons is where your muscles heal, your mind refreshes, and you can come back stronger. If you don’t give your body that recovery period, you’ll start seeing overuse injuries—stress fractures, muscle strains—and by the time you’re supposed to be peaking, you’re too broken down to perform. So, if you’re serious about reaching that next level, take the recovery just as seriously as the training. It’s all about balance. Train hard, compete harder, but rest smarter. That’s how you’ll sustain longevity in sports and avoid being that kid who peaked too early.
