Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency’s Post

In the early 1800s, America and Britain fought for control of Michigan and the Great Lakes – set off by the British capture of Fort Mackinac on this date 212 years ago. The Treaty of Ghent, which ended the War of 1812, restored peace to Mackinac. American soldiers retook possession of Fort Mackinac in July 1815, three years after the post had been captured.
