It’s such a blast to start the year speaking to young leaders across the state to showcase the power of young professionals in our rapidly evolving workforce! ✨🚀 As students across the country consider what the future holds for them and how they can get a head start on their chosen pathways, here are some of my top tips: ✨ Find Your Ikigai: Make sure your combining what you love with what you’re good at, what the world needs, and what you can get paid for. That’s your true purpose. ✨ Push Yourself Outside Your Comfort Zones: Great things never come from comfort zones. If you catch yourself coasting along, think about how you can push yourself to the next level. ✨ Take Care Of Yourself: Your brain is like a computer. If you haven’t shut your laptop down in a few days, have hundreds of tabs open, and are trying to run some complex software, it’s going to be pretty slow and rubbish to use. Your brain is the same. ✨ Say Yes To Opportunities: Take every opportunity that comes your way as a chance to try something new and see whether or not it’s for you. You never know where it might take you! I’m looking forward to an action packed year ahead in classrooms across the country and around the world to show young people all they can achieve!

What is a Market Value Asset? A market value asset (MVA) is a cornerstone experience that prepares a student for future learning and employment. MVAs are authentic previews of the world of work or post-secondary education. While the professional and academic worlds are ever-changing, the outgrowths students develop when they work on authentic projects with real employers and mentors are durable enough to benefit them throughout their lives. Building on the momentum of my last post, I want to delve deeper into the practical application of our vision at NewComm. Imagine a world where students not only dream up but also bring to life interventions for their communities, transforming their learning into tangible outcomes that can impact 100’s of their neighbors. (Cohort 1’s intervention “The Net Gala” currently has 60 students signed up. We estimate 100 students signed up by June) In these collaborative "studios," students from neighboring schools come together to build their learning together, breaking down traditional educational silos. They're not just learners; they become planners, creators, designers, and leaders. This hands-on approach not only enriches their educational experience but also instills a profound sense of responsibility, purpose, and community engagement. (Our first studio located on Horace Mann School’s campus is pictured below) We're still very much in the early stages of developing this concept. In fact, I am constantly hitting roadblocks, but I’m super excited about what we are building. Our aim? To not only bridge the gap between theory and practice but to also weave empathy, collaboration, and innovation into the very fabric of public education. I plan to continue this conversation this week, and would love for you to join in. Your insights are super important to us as we navigate this exciting path forward. Together, we can shape a future where education is not just about acquiring knowledge, but about making meaningful local impact at scale.
