I saw this pop up on my Facebook and I shared it there about a childhood fire safety instructor of mine, Smokey Bear (Preventor of Wildfires) and Sparky (Importance of Fire Safety), a fire safety instructor I am familiar with since getting into the fire & life safety industry.
It was really interesting to see the two together for me. As it made me think about how little I knew about the fire and life safety industry when I was younger.
I bring all of this up because the NFSA, as well as the American Fire Sprinkler Association (AFSA) both talk about needing to get more people into the fire and life safety trades.
However, most people learn about it as adult or get exposed to it only in high school.
I think the NFPA has a good idea with sparky and getting in front of children at a much younger age to teach them about fire safety. UL Solutions also has a really awesome series called Wild about Safty with Timon & Pumba from The Walt Disney Company.
I would challenge all of the people who come across this post, as well as everyone in the fire and life safety industry to help share the message of fire and life safety, both in a practical aspect, but also as a career choice. Especially with the much younger generations.
Volunteer for a elementary stem program, if you own a company maybe see if you could sponsor one, that way we are able to get the people interested in the fire safety industry at a much younger age.
Everyone knows about fire fighters, but not many people know about fire protection engineers, designers, fire protection pipe fitters, etc..
