We at r3.0 engaged in depth with the Corporate Racial Equity Alliance (CREA) over that past few years, to support them in developing a set of corporate performance standards that integrate racial and economic equity thresholds, and tie in to corporate duties & obligations to manage their impacts on rightsholders sustainably. CREA is hosting an important Webinar next week (on 20 May) introducing the draft standards and opening up an extended public comment period. I'm particularly excited to hear from Mahlet Getachew of PolicyLink, who has been leading the development of these standards (which she will be speaking about at the r3.0 Conference this fall in the thresholds & allocations session https://lnkd.in/eTN-QBAf ) Other key players in the standards development who will be speaking include Ashley Marchand Orme of JUST Capital and Kendra Berenson of FSG. And we deeply appreciate the participation of Jocelyn Corbett of PolicyLink & Christine Auwarter of FSG representing CREA in our Global Thresholds & Allocations Network. I strongly encourage folks to attend this Webinar, and participate in the public comment period for these pioneering standards. https://lnkd.in/e7n68mQz

Read into our latest report 💡💡 Over 1,000 respondents shared their invaluable feedback with us earlier this year through surveys and focus groups as part of our effort to evolve the B Corp Standards. In this report, we summarize the 16,000+ pieces of qualitative feedback received during the consultation and outline how we’re moving forward to finalize the standards. We’re excited to share how this collective insight has shaped the Evolution of Standards and the next steps on this journey. As Judy Rodrigues, Director of Standards at B Lab Global, says: "Collaboration with the community and stakeholders to shape the standards is integral to ensuring B Corp standards are ambitious yet achievable, focusing on galvanizing impactful business action on the most pressing social and environmental issues of our time." At B Lab, these standards are at the heart of the BCorp movement. They define the social, environmental, and governance best practices for businesses that drive our vision of an inclusive, equitable, and regenerative global economy, one that benefits all people and the planet. A huge thank you to everyone who contributed! Your input ensures that our standards remain clear, impactful, and relevant to the unique contexts in which our diverse community of B Corps operates. 🧷 Read the full report here: https://bit.ly/47zJ62J

Frank Shrontz Professor and Director Jeffery Smith recently co-authored a commentary with Professor Tim Hargrave of Central Washington University, examining some well-received ideas in the field of #stakeholdermanagement. Their work is a response to an important paper in the Academy of Management Review by Flore Bridoux and J.W. Stoelhorst, who offer an innovative application of Nobel laureate Elinor Ostrom’s “community governance model” of cooperation. Their objective is to foster more equity and trust in firms by empowering #stakeholders to become participants in important, firm-level decisions. Hargrave and Smith, however, discern problems inherent in applying Ostrom’s work. Imbalances in power between stakeholders, an absence of social connection with a firm’s activities and an ease of exit in the marketplace make it difficult for stakeholders to become invested in participation. They therefore argue that stakeholder governance requires added external requirements that mitigate conflicts between stakeholders and foster a more equitable distribution of value.
