Looking forward to attending Footprint+ 2024 tomorrow! Hope to see some of you there. I’ll be starting with the breakfast briefing with Modus: How is ESG driving asset performance?
The built environment is the largest source of climate emissions after surface transport. In numbers, our industry is responsible for approximately 40% of global emissions. As project managers, we recognise that we have a key role to play in reducing the impact of our industry and facilitating more sustainable projects. That's why, next week, you can find us at FOOTPRINT+ in London, for two days of knowledge sharing, networking and exploring innovative ways to achieve a more sustainable industry. Planning to attend the conference too? Look out for the following Buro Four delegates, who will be joining the event at Old Billingsgate from 8-9 May: 🔸 Ruth Oates 🔸 Keith Davies 🔸 Rosanna Johnson 🔸 Martina Concordia 🔸 Alice O'Carroll #Sustainability #ProjectManagement #NetZero #LondonConference #Footprintplus #FP24

"Regulation doesn't make a building more green, but people!" Thank you for the vivite panel Discussion #Nissa Shahid and #Dan Hughes and #Andrew Knight for moderating. Today's discussions were dynamic, featuring a great line up of speakers exploring how digitalisation, materials innovation, and new technologies could shape decarbonisation pathways in the built environment’s future. Here are some highlights from today’s discussions: Reconciling real estate practice with rapidly evolving technologies The industry really needs to face that there is a new century we live in, and it will not go back to the black box thinking which we had over the last 10-15 years. IFC EDGE green building program demonstrator If we are to decarbonise the building sector, we need systems and tools that are scalable, versatile and are globally applicable. The EDGE system offers a standard that is being applied globally in over 100 countries, and yet it maintains its local relevance in all those places. Enabling a low carbon, safe, materials economy Addressing embodied carbon in building materials is immense... The total built space in the world is expected to double by the year 2060. And about 80% of that development will happen in emerging markets. So, it is crucial for humanity to address that aspect. Sustainable resources security and the extractive industries The global population is expected to peak at around 10.8 billion by 2080, and a quarter of the world’s population will be in Africa. Many developing countries need to increase their housing stock for their populations, and for this, concrete, steel, cement and other materials are required. To meet future demand, it is estimated that we’d need to bring the global stock of steel alloy to 144bn tonnes – four times more than we have produced since the beginning of human life.
