WATCH 🎥: “It will ensure mental health is given the same attention and focus as physical health."🔥🔥🔥 We're excited by how prominent mental health was in today's King's Speech. This is just the start. We'll keep pushing to make sure the new UK government delivers on these promises 💪

My only reservation is that by saying they will give the same emphasis as physical health, it is not down the current pattern of 15 minute appointments and a prescription for drugs with no proper investigation and monitoring. In addition we need to step away from a tunnel vision approach or big Pharma and weave in a variety of therapeutic options. A whole person approach that also addresses past trauma, environmental issues that cause mental illness, generational as well as initiatives to empower and equip people to manage and heal. If ever there was a time to combine the orthodox with the unconventional (which used to be very orthodox ) it is now…

Hope they start with introducing mindfulness into the National curriculum from the very start

Hopefully an end to health care professionals giving antidepressants out like smarties too.

The UK is way ahead of most countries when it comes to dealing with mental health, with the King even talking about it in his most prominent speech of the year. Other governments should follow this example and make mental health a priority. It was recently reported that suicide, crime and car accidents account for a third of death claims at one of South Africa's largest insurance companies. Much is being done to deal with crime and road accidents, but why is the suicide rate being ignored?

yeah what reforms??? the DWP's idea of removing the weekly payments to sufferers in the form of PIP? If the DWP removes PIP then many will find themselves, including me on the breadline, as mine is also for physical issues. No voucher system or one off payment is going to help me on a daily basis so like thousands of others I will be looking hard as to wether it is actually worth continuing on, in this dreary god forsaken hole!.

It's fantastic to see mental health taking such a prominent role in today's King's Speech! This recognition is long overdue and marks a promising start. We're ready to support and advocate for these crucial changes, ensuring the new UK government follows through on their commitments. Together, we can make a real difference! 💪✨

Mind The most important word for me in the King’s speech on mental health is ‘prevention’. There is such a focus on what happens when things are already going down the wrong path rather than tools and techniques to prevent poor mental health in the first place. Let’s work on mental fitness like we do physical fitness. 💪🏼 This of course works on an individual level but also SO important for organisations and the economy. If we were all able to have calm, clear-headed focus, just imagine the transformational change that we would have collectively. Looking forward to hear more! 💫

We look forward to hearing more about the strategies for this. Mental and physical health are entirely intertwined so need to be treated in a more holistic way, rather than siloed into separate pathways, waitlists etc

I really hope that we'll look back on this as a pivotal moment in the history of mental health.💚
