The Nike symbol aka “The Swoosh” is one of the most iconic logos of today.✨ So, here's an interesting little backstory👇 The idea of the Swoosh is connected to the name of the brand, Nike, called after the Greek goddess of Victory, and the graphical element represents the goddess’ wing.👟 It was created by Carolyn Davidson in 1971 and took her almost 17.5 hours. (for which she was paid $2 an hour)😯 But in its initial days, Nike was known as Blue Ribbon Sports.😎 The company's original logo consisted of the initials “BRS” intertwined with stripes and a unique shape. However, the legibility of the text posed a problem, so they developed a simplified design. Funny story: When Carolyn showed the iconic Swoosh to Nike co-founder Phil Knight, he wasn't a big fan.🫠 Despite Phil's reservations, the Swoosh logo became a hugely successful symbol of the Nike brand.🤩 By the mid-1990s, the Swoosh logo was one of the most recognisable symbols in the world. This allowed the company to take a bold step and drop its wordmark altogether and use only the iconic Swoosh as its logo.🌟 Well, they weren't wrong, were they? #nike #creativity #logocreation #branding #sports

Commercial Analyst | Stakeholder Communication | Maximizing Profitability by Identifying and Prioritizing Growth Opportunities
8 months ago i bought my first Nike shoes and since then i have added 4 to the collection 👟 👟 While some find brand loyalty in product experience or product quality; for me, it's the incredible journey behind the swoosh! 💫 Reading Phil Knight's memoir, understanding the seeds of inception and witnessing the relentless pursuit of greatness have made me not just a loyal customer but a proud advocate. 😎 These are the lesser-known facts which provide a glimpse into the unique and unconventional history of one of the world's most iconic athletic brands: 1. Original Name Inspiration: Before being named Nike, the company was initially named "Blue Ribbon Sports" when it was founded in 1964 by Phil Knight and Bill Bowerman. The name Nike, inspired by the Greek winged goddess of victory, was adopted in 1971. 2. Swoosh Creation Cost: The iconic Nike Swoosh logo, designed by graphic design student Carolyn Davidson in 1971, was purchased by Nike co-founder Phil Knight for just $35. Talk about a great investment! 3. First Waffle Sole Creation: Nike's co-founder, Bill Bowerman (Knight's coach, teacher, mentor), created the first Nike shoe sole by pouring rubber into his wife's waffle iron, experimenting with various patterns. This innovative waffle sole design provided enhanced traction and became a trademark feature of many Nike running shoes. 4. Air Max's Visible Air Unit Origins: The idea of the visible Air unit in Nike's Air Max shoes came from an unexpected source – a plastic bag. Tinker Hatfield, the designer behind Air Max, got the inspiration for the visible air cushion by observing the air-filled bags used to protect a bottle of wine during a visit to Paris. 5. Banned Commercial: In 1995, Nike released a commercial featuring a series of athletes engaging in activities considered inappropriate at the time, such as skateboarding on church property and running from bulls. The provocative ad was eventually banned, but it generated significant buzz and contributed to Nike's edgy and rebellious brand image. Which brands are you loyal to? And what makes you loyal to these brands? #Nike #Innovation #Sports #JustDoIt" #Brandloyalty #Nikefan 👟🤸♂️ #InspirationEveryStep ⭐

Nike's Air Jordan Dynasty: The Absolute Game Changer Part- 5/6 In the mid-80s, when the basketball sneaker world was ruled by giants like Converse and Adidas, Nike saw an opportunity in a young Michael Jordan – a chance to rewrite the rules of the game. They offered him an unprecedented deal – his own signature line, creative control, and a slice of the profits. With that stroke of genius, a dynasty was born: Air Jordan. From the moment the Air Jordan 1 hit the hardwood, it defied norms. Its iconic red and black colorway earned Jordan a fine every time he laced them up, violating the NBA's strict uniform regulations. But this act of defiance was gasoline on Nike's fire, transforming Air Jordan into a symbol of individuality and self-expression that would burn brighter with each release. As the hype reached stratospheric levels, Jordan transcended the boundaries of sports to become a cultural icon, infiltrating fashion, music, and the very fabric of popular culture. The Air Jordan line became a canvas for Nike's creativity, each new silhouette pushing design boundaries and capturing the imaginations of sneakerheads worldwide. Even when rivals threatened Nike's dominance with stylish offerings, the Air Jordan remained an unstoppable force. Its legacy was immortalized in films like "The Shoe Deal That Changed History," capturing the essence of a brand that dared to dream and never settled for anything less than greatness. The Air Jordan saga is a testament to Nike's visionary approach, their ability to shape an industry's future with boldness and audacity. It's a story of innovation, perseverance, and the unwavering belief that greatness isn't reserved for a chosen few, but a pursuit that lies within each of us, waiting to be unleashed. So the next time you lace up a pair of Jordans, remember – you're not just wearing shoes, you're strapping on wings that have defied gravity for decades #nike #airjordan #marketinggenius #gamechanger

When it comes to controversy, Nike has mastered the art, and their latest Nike x JACQUEMUS collaboration, is no exception. Front and center of this daring Spring 2024 collection is none other than the unapologetic force of nature, Sha'Carri Richardson. Drawing inspiration from Nike's history of eyebrow-raising moments and disruptive campaigns (hello, Kaepernick's "Dream Crazy"), Richardson embodies the spirit of breaking boundaries and pushing limits. From the unmistakable "Swoosh Bag" to the avant-garde "Le Haut Drapé", each piece in this collection serves as a bold declaration of individuality and athleticism. In true Nike fashion (why add a pun if you don’t intend it?), Sha'Carri Richardson takes the spotlight, emphasizing that this collaboration isn't just about fashion anymore. This campaign is a powerful statement, paying homage to unapologetic self-expression, and a jubilation of those who fearlessly shatter molds. ⚽ Have Nike and the FA dropped the ball with this one❓(Pun intended 😊) With all the good will in the world, Nike have altered St. George's cross on the new England football kit to 'unite and inspire'. It's caused a lot of upset for certain people, with the feeling that the change is an insult or a slight on the history, meaning and cultural heritage of the country. To them the symbol is sacred...to be untouched. 👉 On a personal level, it doesn't bother me. I'm patriotic to a degree, as we all probably are, but my feelings around my patriotism aren't nearly strong enough that this would upset me. That said...I get it... When adidas changed the Manchester United emblem on the third kit to a solitary red devil it didn't sit right with me. Whilst there's an affinity to the club in the new symbol, the official emblem represents far too much to so many. With an emotional connection so strong with the club, the new symbol feels like an imposter. ✅ Let's bring this to a lesson we can learn in design... When we're designing products for other people, it's extremely important to be empathetic. You design for others. Not only do you have to take into account, the functionality, the form and the fit of a product, but also how it makes people feel. To do that, you have to truly understand the end consumer. In the case of the Nike England shirt, I fear whilst with good intentions, they've not quite understood the brief. ⚽ Have Nike and the FA dropped the ball with this one❓ Let me know your thoughts in the comments. ____ 𝗠𝗶𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗲𝗹 𝗛𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗵𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗳𝗲 Backpack Specialist, helping brands create outstanding products that last!
