The Royal Netherlands Air Force (RNLAF) has taken a significant step in bolstering its military capabilities with the first flight of an MQ-9 Reaper over Dutch airspace. The unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), known for its surveillance and reconnaissance abilities, executed a practice mission over the northern regions of the Netherlands and the adjacent sea area. This marks a pivotal moment as the RNLAF prepares for a broader integration of these systems into its defense strategy, both for national security and NATO cooperation. The MQ-9’s debut flight is part of an ongoing training program in which military personnel will practice coordinating with fighter jets, ground troops, and air traffic controllers. This operation is part of the Weapons Instructor Course, where the UAV plays a critical role in supporting ground forces. The aircraft’s ability to identify targets and relay real-time information is invaluable, especially in modern combat scenarios. Such exercises are vital for honing the skills of ground troops, air controllers, and pilots, ensuring that the Netherlands is prepared for future deployments, whether in defense of the homeland or in international missions. #military #defense #defence #militaryleak https://lnkd.in/gS84uh_g

The US Army's Aviation and Military Intelligence Branch's have worked closely during employment of Aerial Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) for decades all over the globe in support of different types of Joint and Coalition Operations. This article references Task Force Observe, Detect and Identify in which many of us have had the pleasure to serve in and support. The focus of my numerous times in and supporting TF ODIN was to integrate air and ground operations to bring optimal operational impacts. Things such as Manned Unmanned Teaming (MUM-T), route clearance operations, spectral sensing, ground/helicopter assault force (G/HAF) operations, etc. were our focus. All these operations were well synchronized air and ground operations, albeit counter insurgency and counter terrorism focused. We have numerous experts within the military operational specialties in UAS and have operated effectively in this area for years, including the US Army. Some great points in this article in terms of our tactical maneuver and ground forces employing these capabilities. Interesting read, yet not entirely convinced of the authors proposal of creating a separate branch. The differences in UAS employment in Ukraine are somewhat different, but very similar in many regards. #ISR #UAS #ISRTF

Airbus has finalised the acquisition of U.S.-based Aerovel and its unmanned aerial system (UAS), Flexrotor, in a move to strengthen its portfolio of tactical unmanned solutions. Flexrotor is a small tactical unmanned aerial system designed for intelligence, surveillance, target acquisition and reconnaissance (ISTAR) missions at sea and over land. Aerovel currently employs more than 30 people and presents a significant growth trajectory. It will continue to design and manufacture the Flexrotor in Bingen, Washington in an existing and mature UAS ecosystem. The Flexrotor, a modern Vertical Takeoff and Landing (VTOL) Unmanned Aircraft with a maximum launch weight of 25 kg (55 lbs), has been designed for ISTAR missions for more than 12-14 hours in a typical operational configuration. It can integrate different types of payloads including an electro-optical system and advanced sensors to suit customers’ unique mission needs. With the ability to autonomously launch and recover from either land or sea requiring only a 3.7 by 3.7 m (12 by 12 ft.) area, the Flexrotor is ideal for expeditionary missions requiring minimal footprint. Through the support of the US Department of Defense (DoD), and contracted deployment in a variety of maritime security exercises, the Flexrotor is a mission-proven, force multiplier for operations in harsh, high-threat, GPS-denied environments. The Flexrotor is also being operated for parapublic missions such as forest fire surveillance (providing firefighters with critical images day or night) and can address other demanding mission needs, including ice navigation (helping guide naval vessels through ice in the Arctic ocean), law enforcement, and border patrol. #military #defense #defence #militaryleak https://lnkd.in/dhzzZdhv

- The Air Force is starting a program called Collaborative Combat Aircraft (CCA). - This pairs unmanned drones with manned planes for missions. - David Alexander from General Atomics says this is a big change for the military. - Drones were used for surveillance and strikes before, but now they're central to missions. - Drones like MQ-1 Gray Eagle and MQ-9 Reaper could do air combat but were mostly used for ground attacks. - Air Force Secretary Frank Kendall is pushing for more uncrewed programs. - General Atomics is one of five companies working on the CCA program. - They're making drones that can fly long distances and also take off from temporary bases. - They're also developing smaller drones for swarm operations. - These drones could be important in conflicts like the one in Ukraine. - The Navy is also using drones for surveillance at sea, like the MQ-9B Sea Guardian. - Watch more about this on YouTube: https://lnkd.in/g73NPxpt #WingedMonkeys
