Quick Take: Ukraine War Highlights Need for Anti-Jamming Technology To combat GPS jamming tactics, the US Air Force is investing $23.6 million in GPS Jam seekers for the Ukrainian military. These seekers, when integrated with JDAM munition kits, will allow Ukraine to target and neutralize enemy jammers threatening GPS-guided weapons. The GPS Jam seekers have passive RF seekers that can detect and pinpoint the source of GPS jamming signals. The 7th edition of India-France Joint Military Exercise SHAKTI began today in Umroi, Meghalaya, strengthening bilateral relations. Exercise SHAKTI is a biennial exercise held alternately in #India and #France. The last edition was held in France in November 2021. Observers from the #IndianNavy and #IndianAirForce will also take part in the exercise. The French contingent of 90 will primarily be from the 13th Foreign Legion Half-Brigade (13th DBLE). #ExerciseSHAKTI intends to enhance both sides' joint military capability to conduct multi-domain operations in a sub-conventional situation under Chapter VII of the United Nations Mandate. The joint exercise is expected to focus on operations in semi-urban and mountainous terrain. The collaborative training aims to acquire high levels of physical fitness, rehearse and refine drills for tactical operations, and share best practices. Tactical drills to be practiced during the Exercise will include responding to a terrorist action of capturing a defined territory, establishing a Joint Command Post, establishing an Intelligence & Surveillance Centre, securing a helipad/landing site, Small Team Insertion & Extraction, Special Heliborne Operations, Cordon & Search Operations, and the use of drones and counter-drone systems, among others. Exercise SHAKTI will enable the two sides to share their best practices in Tactics, Techniques and Procedures of conducting joint operations. The joint exercise will help push interoperability and camaraderie between the two countries' armed forces personnel.

The UK MoD stressed that the expansion of defensive lines would limit the ability of Russian forces to advance or use tactical advantages in their current offensive operations. 🇬🇧🇺🇦👏 The UK has announced a partnership with Sheffield Forgemasters to expand the country’s ability to produce forgings for gun barrels. The initiative will help maintain the flow of vital equipment pouring into Ukraine, such as L119 Light Guns and the AS90 self-propelled howitzer, the UK Ministry of Defence said. *US and Israel Would Conduct Annual Tunnel Exercises Under House Plan* The latest draft of the House Armed Services Committee’s $895 billion defense spending bill would require the US to conduct joint exercises with Israel aimed at improving the countries’ ability to fight militants and smugglers in underground tunnels, part of a push to counter a key advantage of Hamas and other groups. According to the pending legislation, US-funded technology initiatives developed by a little-known Pentagon “Irregular Warfare Technical Support Directorate” have enabled Israeli Defense Forces to discover “over 1,500 new tunnel shafts built under community structures including hospitals, schools, and homes in Gaza including 350 to 450 miles of tunnels,” since the war with Hamas that started October 7. https://lnkd.in/di_2rnzZ

Krašto apsaugos ministerija | Ministry of National Defence of Lithuania announced the acquisition of the RBS70 NG mobile short-range air defence system (MSHORAD) from Swedish company Saab. The deal, valued at EUR 147 million, was finalized through the Defence Materiel Agency, with deliveries scheduled from 2025 to 2027. The MSHORAD system, a modern upgrade to Lithuania’s current air defence arsenal, will include mobile fire control centres, Giraffe 1X mobile radars, and RBS70 NG mobile fire units, all mounted on JLTV armoured all-terrain vehicles. This advanced configuration will offer Lithuania enhanced protection and operational flexibility, ensuring rapid response to potential aerial threats. Lithuanian Defence Minister Laurynas Kasčiūnas highlighted the strategic importance of this acquisition, stating, “MSHORAD is designed to provide protection for certain facilities, sites, and critical infrastructure. The advantage of this system is its mobility, which makes it a much-needed system that will significantly enhance the capabilities of the Lithuanian Armed Forces. The Dutch Ministry of Defence has announced the refurbishment and readiness of the first two of fourteen Leopard 2 A4 tanks, jointly purchased by the Netherlands and Denmark, for Ukraine. These tanks have been renovated by German manufacturer Rheinmetall as part of an initiative to support the Armed Forces of Ukraine. This initial batch is part of a larger order placed last year, showcasing a collaborative European effort to assist Ukraine amidst its ongoing conflict. Rheinmetall is slated to prepare the remaining twelve tanks in the coming months, with a full consignment, including spare parts and ammunition, expected to be delivered to Ukraine by this summer. An excellent day working with a couple of dozen of Puolustusvoimat - Försvarsmakten - Finnish Defence Forces professionals, building towards a common #logistics goal. It never ceases to amaze me how motivated and knowledgeable our officers and civilians are, and how ready and willing they are to put their talents into a single purpose - making sure that we and by proxy NATO is ready to defend our nation and the values it represents. All this and at the same time handling massive #changemanagement and #digitaltransformation is very much a reason to keep doing this.
