J'ai rencontré Pierre Petit, ou de son surnom "Petit Pierre", aujourd'hui dans Rosemont. Un homme avec une histoire triste, qui dort sur un banc de parc depuis quelques jours, avec qui j'ai pris le temps de discuter. Savez-vous que tous les refuges pour homme à Montréal sont constamment plein ces temps-ci? J'ai passé près d'une demi-heure au téléphone à les appeler un par un, et tous me disent la même chose: plein pour ce soir, ou peut-être que Pierre peut être chanceux s'il se présente tard. J'ai dépanné Pierre pour ce soir en lui donnant ce qu'il a besoin pour dormir dans un petit Motel de Hochelaga, mais c'est un bien piètre bandage sur un problème bien plus grand. On vient de construire Royalmount, mais on n'a pas suffisamment de place pour nos sans-abris. Je ne juge pas, mais ça me rend triste et je me demande quelles sont les solutions, sachant bien qu'elles sont rarement simples. Voilà, petite histoire du jour, essayons d'être un peu plus empathique pour les Petits Pierre de ce monde, et si vous avez un projet qui peut aider et pour lequel vous avez besoin de soutien, faites-moi signe.

What if bad management practices were based on fear? A long time ago, an old boss introduced a new policy: if anyone in the company requested paid training, they would have to fully refund the training costs if they left within a year. The result? No one asked the company to pay for training anymore. Instead of encouraging skill development, this policy discouraged it. The oddest part? No one had left the company recently, and this specific situation had never occurred, at least not to my knowledge. This policy was born out of fear—the fear of the company investing in employees without reaping the benefits. While the intention was to protect the company’s resources, the execution had unintended consequences. The worst part? It not only hindered training but also sent a clear message: "I do not trust you." This lack of trust hurt the company even more in the long run. There is a wealth of resources available to become a great leader, yet bad management practices persist. Reflecting on this, fear seems to be a prime suspect. Instead of fear-based policies, what if we focused on trust and empowerment? In every management role I’ve had since this experience, I made it clear that I only cared about employees getting the best training they could and that I would support it as much as possible, no matter what. This approach always had a positive effect, showing trust and care. What are your thoughts on this?

Last year, I was struggling to properly sync 3 different calendars; 1 personal on Google and 2 businesses on M365. I searched for ages how I could sync them and although Google and Microsoft provide some sharing abilities, it did not allow me to sync activities between calendars. But then, eureka. I finally managed to find an incredibly well built tool that did the trick, and I just though some of my LinkedIn contacts may be looking for the same thing. Enjoy!
