Very useful tips for communicating sustainaibility actions that apply beyond tourism-based projects 🌱
Active sustainability communications should be an integral part of any sustainable tourism journey, yet it is often seen as an after thought. This is a missed opportunity. Sharing your sustainability story — initiatives, achievements, challenges, and impact — in a way that is easy to understand and resonates with travelers, trade partners and other stakeholders not only highlights your accomplishments, but it also helps engage others in this journey which can then amplify impacts. I was recently asked by a colleague to contribute some tips on how to do this for a sustainable tourism training manual. What would you add or change? And have you applied any of them in your sustainability communications. 1. Start your sustainability story with *why* you decided to start this journey in the first place. This helps surfaces your underlying values or motivations behind choosing to operate more sustainably. 2. Provide *local context* when sharing your sustainability activities and stories. Travelers may not know the local context -- e.g., lack of water, migration to cities, etc. -- to understand the importance of these activities locally as their home context might be very different. 3. Don't be *vague* when describing the impact or change as a result of your sustainability activities. This can be interpreted as trying to hide something, and it doesn’t support the greater transparency we need to advance sustainability. 4. Remember that sustainability is not only about the environment. Communicate about the *people* involved and the impact of sustainability initiatives on their lives. Hint: do this by telling the story of one person and the change they've experienced. 5. Tell stories of your *challenges* – and what you learned from them — as well as your successes. This type of transparency and honesty earns trust, combats greenwashing and helps others learn from your journey. 6. Highlight how your sustainability activities actually are an *experience enhancer* that provide travelers with deeper connections to people, place and nature. 7. Invite travelers to be *part of* your sustainability journey, and communicate easy and simple ways to do so. Don’t assume that travelers know what the “right” or more sustainable thing to do is. Plus, behavior science shows that their first priority on vacation is to have fun and not “behave sustainably” so providing a list of everything they *shouldn't* do often doesn't work. Instead, break down desired behaviors into simple actions they *should* do, make them easy to do, and show how their actions make a difference locally. The vital services that mangroves along with other wetlands provide for millions of people and species go further than their surrounding areas.
We are in a growing water crisis that threatens people and our planet. We use more water than nature can replenish, and are destroying the ecosystem that water and all life depend on most -- #Wetlands. Check the following facts about wetlands and water 👇 via MedWet

Key concepts to advance biodiversity conservation and climate action
🌍 Building with Nature (BwN), Engineering with Nature (EwN) and Working with Nature (WwN), what is meant by these terms and what are the differences❔ In the recent years Nature-Based Solutions got a lot of attention worldwide. NBS-terms are increasingly used by large organisations. 📘 The article 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲-𝗕𝗮𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗦𝗼𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗧𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆 gives an overview of the terminology and the description each organisation uses: https://lnkd.in/eE48peh Is there a term missing in the list?
