🍃 2024 Alabama PALS "Don’t Drop It On Alabama" Statewide Spring Cleanup 🍃 This April 2024, Alabama embarks on a transformative journey with the "Don’t Drop It On Alabama" Statewide Spring Cleanup. Throughout the entire month, we are calling on cities, counties, schools, neighborhoods, and volunteer groups to unite for a monumental cleanup effort across every county in our state. With all supplies and materials furnished, we are fully equipped to tackle the challenges of litter and illegal dumping head-on, improving our community health, environmental sustainability, and even our city budgets. Yet, the financial burden on states like ours is significant, with millions spent annually on litter collection and cleanup efforts. The "Don’t Drop It On Alabama" initiative is more than just a cleanup; it's a call to action for all Alabamians to play a part in enhancing the beauty and health of our state. The Seminole County, Florida Adopt-A-Road Program is designed to involve the public in keeping Seminole County's roadways and waterways free of litter and debris, promoting watershed awareness, and engaging in stormwater education. With the amount of TRASH littered on the roadside every day, your involvement is becoming increasingly important. Adopt-A-Road allows citizens to demonstrate community pride, make a positive statement for a clean and attractive community, and have a better understanding of stormwater pollution. Volunteers (individual or groups) must sign an Adopt-A-Road permit for one year. The length of road adopted may vary. Each group is responsible for cleaning the adopted roadway at least four (4) times throughout the permit year. A minimum of one (1) stormwater education presentation must be attended by the group along with a minimum of one (1) storm drain marking project. Also, every volunteer (adult or child) who participates during a cleanup must have filled out an Individual Hold Harmless & Indemnification Agreement to participate (see the "Event Sign-in / Liability form", below). This agreement is valid for one (1) year.

Take the High Road! https://donttrashaz.org/ Don't Trash Arizona is a program implemented by the Maricopa Association of Governments (MAG) in collaboration with the Arizona Department of Transportation, to address the environmental, economic, safety, and health impacts of freeway litter along regional and state highways. The program is funded through Prop 400, approved by voters in 2004, to be renewed via Prop 479 in Nov. That funding encompasses litter pickup, sweeping, and landscape maintenance, as well as education and prevention. From 2018 to 2022, 32 people died on Arizona highways due to unsecured loads. In 2022, there were 1,100 crashes and nine fatalities related to dangerous debris in AZ.

Keeping Newbridge clean and litter-free is not just about aesthetics—it’s about promoting community health and sustainability. Throughout my term, I've pushed for strict measures to address littering, which not only improve the visual appeal of our community but also protect our local ecosystems. These initiatives include: - Enforcing litter laws more rigorously. - Increasing fines and surveillance in litter-prone areas. - Engaging the community through educational campaigns about the impacts of littering. - Working closely with the probation services, environment section and area office to clean up areas promptly These steps have significantly reduced litter in Newbridge, making our town a cleaner, more inviting place to live, work, and visit. However, the journey does not end here. Continued effort and community engagement are essential to sustain and build on our progress. There seems to be a lot of confusion around the issue of fixed anchors here in the US. Bolts and fixed rappel anchors keep climbers safe and prevent accidents, and have virtually no impact on the environment. In Europe the idea of bolting is so prevalent that governments in some countries provide funding to ensure routes are bolted and maintained in a safe manner. Here in the US, there is Kafkaesque talk about using tax payer dollars to remove anchors that climbers have installed on their own time with their own money. This bill responds to a growing threat from the National Park Service, which has recently moved to prohibit fixed anchors in Wilderness areas in California and Colorado.
