Our company, Migis Hotel Group, was borne entirely from a desire, and indeed a need - it was argued at the time - to create opportunities for the young folks who were working with Tim and Joan Porta at Migis Lodge on Sebago Lake. Tim, and also of course Joan, realized that people were what made hospitality happen, and that Migis Lodge only had so much capacity to support career growth for good people who were part of the Migis team making exemplary heart-felt hospitality happen.  They felt that they, personally, needed to provide more for these people who were working with them, learning the trade, developing the skills, conjuring the “Migis Magic”.  Tim insisted on being a risk taker, and he exuded the concept that anything could be accomplished, because we were all capable of doing it, once we got past the idea that perhaps we could not.  He would brush those thoughts aside.  It was Tim’s idea of using skill sets and experience that we had developed at Migis Lodge to begin to provide exemplary management services in the hospitality industry.      This is why and how I am here, 20+ year later, alongside their son Jed Porta and Phil Kronenthal, my 2 partners in MHG. All 3 of us worked together at the Lodge in all aspects of the operation, and were given the opportunities to grow, which is what we've done, learning and developing both ourselves individually, and growing the very company that Tim and Joan started all those years ago with folks like us entirely in mind, now employing 500+ and providing opportunities for them.      Tim Porta, founding CEO of our company, teacher, life coach, guide, and greatest supporter, floated away early Monday morning, July 8, 2024, aged 80, with his family close by his side, the impacts of his person having reverberated farther and deeper than he could ever have imagined.  When death invades our lives we often frame it in legacy and torch bearing, “into the future”.  The charm here is that Tim’s legacy, what he leaves behind, does not begin today, but rather has tangibly existed for many years.  Tim let us create, demanded we create, a culture, our culture, and this very culture is a legacy, a stewardship, and torch bearing.  It’s at the very heart of what we do at Migis Hotel Group.  We are a company of culture and Migis Magic.  This is what we are, this is from where we have come, and this is the greatest legacy that one could have for a company that he had created.      We thank you, Tim, for your foresight, risk taking, support, faith and expectations that you made and had in all of us, all of the people, every one of us, that you held up, pushed forward and upward. Your incredible passion for this industry proved inspirational to us, and we continue to carry your legacy, sharing our culture, and engaging our passion to support all those who are now, and will be, the MHG team; pushing them up and forward, like you did us.        God Speed Tim.   Jesse Henry   Migis Hotel Group https://bit.ly/4cUYvfm
