Apple Vision Pro has taken the AR/VR consumer space by storm! but its not unique - here is why? Despite similar offerings by competitors at lower prices, Vision Pro stands out for one magical word - #Ecosystem. The Apple Store ecosystem of #Apps is what sets it apart. While a $4K price tag for single user watching a movie on a large screen may not be practical, using it to watch a football match with statistics from a 2nd app & social media feed on another or fixing your car while watching a DIY guide are priceless use cases for many. So let this be the a lesson, you don't need to be the first, If you have and coming with an ecosystem. #Apple #VisionPro #Ecosystem #augmentedreality #virtualreality #Consumer #Technology #VR Apple

While the Tech World eagerly looks on to the launch of Apple Vision Pro from tomorrow, the link below has highlighted some of the use cases and applications that are made possible by Apple Vision Pro and Spatial Computing. Though it's quite a welcoming move for the AR/VR Industry or the rechristened Spatial Computing Industry at large, there aren't any groundbreaking new use case or application, which isn't being addressed already by the existing ecosystem of #XR Devices. The #VR / #AR and the overall XR Industry is constantly in the evolution and is being targeted by the Big Techwigs using different branding phases like #Metaverse, #SpatialComputing etc. Hopefully the Industry picks up the necessary velocity it deserves this time with the advent of Apple Vision Pro, as there is no other better company to market than Apple for any new technology or product. https://lnkd.in/gPcW7GwS

Meta are about to release virtual reality OS to other hardware manufacturers. Feels like Android vs apple iOS scenario. A good idea as it enables much faster development of better hardware and more choice for consumers. I am a strong believer that AI and mixed reality will be joined at the hip in the future, massively changing the mobile phone dynamic of today. There was a time when we use to remember phone numbers and then mobiles appeared. There will be a time when we use to remember people, then mixed reality and AI appeared.... Interesting article on the opening up of Meta platform: https://lnkd.in/eJt4m5h5

So, there’s a new Google Pixel phone, and one of its flagship features is “Add Me” – allowing you to retroactively include yourself in a photo you’ve just taken. As a Product person, I always think about the value of a new feature, and I’m struggling with this one. Isn’t it just easier to ask a stranger to take your group photo, or simply use a selfie stick or tripod? On a broader level, it feels like mobile phone innovations have hit their peak, with new features now being more gimmicky than groundbreaking. Yes, AI will soon enhance app experiences, but beyond that, what’s left? This might be why Meta and Apple are investing heavily in AR and VR – perhaps that’s where the next wave of innovation lies. Product Managers, help me out here – am I being too harsh on the “Add Me” feature? Is there more value here than I’m giving it credit for? #ProductManagement #Innovation #TechTrends #MobilePhones #AR #VR #GooglePixel Image Credit: Google Store

Dean, Faculty of Animation, Art, and Design at Sheridan College; Author, The Starving Artist Myth (Dundurn Press, 2024)
Sunday morning thoughts. I've been writing about VR since this mid 1990s. The theme that has consistently followed its history is that the tech can do wonders and provides a unique experience, but is also clunky and uncertain to break through the consumer market in the way other transformative tech has. It certainly has its fair share of evangelists who show all the amazing things that contemporary hardware can do, and yes some of this leads to some astonishing and occasionally moving experiences. But I think the Vision Pro is the device that will settle the question of whether VR will ever become a widely adopted consumer product, or if developers should just commit that it is a transformative but niche piece of hardware best left to industry uses and research. For the moment: $4700CDN to watch an immersive movie or have more space in your virtual desktop? https://lnkd.in/gB7-VCWs
