Micron Technology, Inc. has announced the sampling of its next-generation GDDR7 graphics memory, offering the industry's highest bit density. Leveraging 1β DRAM technology and an innovative architecture, Micron GDDR7 delivers high-performance memory at 32 Gb/s with over 1.5 TB/s of system bandwidth, a 60% increase over GDDR6. The memory features four independent channels to optimize workloads, providing faster response times, smoother gameplay, and reduced processing times. GDDR7 also boasts a greater than 50% power-efficiency improvement over GDDR6, with a new sleep mode reducing standby power by up to 70%. Advanced reliability features enhance data integrity, expanding applications to #AI, gaming, and high-performance computing. Micron GDDR7 improves throughput by up to 33% and reduces response time by up to 20% for #generativeAI workloads. Graphics cards with GDDR7 are expected to offer over 30% improvement in FPS for ray tracing and rasterization across various resolutions. The addition of GDDR7 complements Micron's product portfolio for edge AI inference and gaming applications. Ecosystem partners such as AMD and Cadence Design Systems have expressed support for Micron's GDDR7 technology. The memory will be available in the second half of 2024.
