You might be a Second if you've ever written a letter to your boss ASKING to be promoted to a position where you could do all of this: In this new position, I would take over these responsibilities: - Do all the unglamorous shit - Deal with angry customers - Answer painful emails - Work long hours - Be constantly aware that our decisions might be terrible - Slog through dozens of reports on efficiency, competitors, bank accounts, profit lines, complaints, time tracking, billable hours, accounts receivable, and loan payments - Lose sleep when a big customer threatens us - Lose sleep about hiring the best new team member - Lose sleep when the bank account gets low - Lose sleep when someone on the team does something dumb - Lose sleep when we know the team won’t meet a deadline - Lose sleep when we have to let someone go - Just, lose a lot of sleep.

I read about SitusAMC’s recent decision to lay off all USA-based employees and outsource jobs overseas, and I wanted to share my perspective. My friend, who was dedicated and hardworking, was one of the employees affected by this decision. It's disheartening to see people like my friend being let go purely for the sake of increasing profits. Outsourcing might cut costs in the short term, but the long-term impacts can be detrimental. Losing experienced and knowledgeable employees not only affects morale but can also lead to a decline in the quality of work and customer satisfaction. Moreover, this trend contributes to economic instability for local communities and exacerbates the challenges of finding secure employment. I hope SitusAMC can find a balance between financial goals and the well-being of their employees. Investing in the workforce, offering retraining opportunities, and exploring ways to innovate while keeping jobs local can ultimately lead to more sustainable and ethical business practices.
