I throughly enjoyed delivering a webinar on young people's gambling and gaming with Dr Rebecca Lockwood, open to all staff at Central and North West London NHS Trust yesterday. Some Intresting facts: 💣 Gaming, social media and screens are very much part of our lives, with some young people suffering online harms and developing gaming addiction. 💣 Something less well recognised is that 26% of young people aged 11 to 17 have participated in a gambling activity in the last twelve months.* 💣A small but significant minority of those young people will also develop a gambling addiction. 💣This is despite most forms of licensed gambling being illegal for those under 18 in England. What to look out for: 🧐If you are a professional working with young people, always remember to ask them if they gamble as part of your assessment. 🧐If the answer is "yes", then ask the young person if they have ever lied about their gambling or ever lost more than they could afford to loose. 🧐 If you are a parent spotting suspicious transactions in yours or your teenager's account, or you caught your child stealing or lying about money, investigate if they gamble. On a more positive note, help is available and no matter where you live in England, you can refer young people aged 13-17 affected by gambling harms to the National Gambling Clinic. #gamblingtreatment #behaviouraladdiction #cnwl

REMINDER: Michael Sciandra and I are presenting “Extra! Extra! Read SOME About It!” on Friday, July 19 from 11:15-12:15 pacific time. Session abstract: For those sharing their own lived experiences in problem gambling, media interactions can be daunting. Media involvement is a valuable piece of educating the public on problem gambling-related topics. However, it is important that the stories and information conveyed through the media remain consistent, neutral, confidential, trauma-informed, and engaging. Regardless of the specifics of your personal journey, learn how to share your own problem gambling recovery story in a manner that allows your community to learn more about problem gambling prevention and recovery in a manner that promotes hope, inclusivity, and action. #speaking #gambling #ncpg #addiction #conference
