This seems like a win for both usability and security (which is rare). Google is now allowing the use of passkeys (rather than a hardware token) for their Advanced Protection Program. My own advice for those who would prefer to be truly private and secure: install GrapheneOS in lieu of Android (you can still load Google Play later for apps) and use Proton Mail and their password manager (and activate their Sentinel feature).
