In a groundbreaking collaboration, UTS researchers, led by Dr. Adriana Simona Mihăiță, are revolutionizing road safety in New South Wales using the power of Artificial Intelligence! With 1,753 lives lost and 25,638 seriously injured on NSW roads (2016-2020), the team partnered with Transport for NSW to enhance safety through innovative data-driven approaches. By incorporating international standards and leveraging AI and machine learning techniques, the researchers expanded the road 'star' risk ratings from 13 to 34 attributes. This world-leading research, achieved in collaboration with data giants like TomTom and geospatial providers like Anditi, promises more efficient and cost-effective road safety management. Peter Dunphy, Head of Transport Safety at Transport for NSW, emphasized the project's impact on real lives: "The iMOVE research project has proved that new artificial intelligence and machine-learning based data collection will improve the accuracy, reliability, and scalability of capturing AusRAP data for the State’s network and beyond.” This innovative research doesn't stop here!
