Friendly reminder for 🏳️🌈Pride Month🏳️🌈and most other ____’Month/Week/Days: Talk (including from the C Suite) is cheap. ❌ Cheesy images and video are cheap.❌ Actually doing something real is impactful. ✅ ❤️ Some examples: ⬇️ —Community service project during work hours. — Corporate donations with input from the team. — Matching those donations —Lecture/training series for continuing ed credit. — Art/essay contest with real prizes, including family members of the employees. — Sharing new data validating progress to support the cause (e.g. on Veterans Day, revealing how many veterans were hired/promoted). —Living values all year, not just during a month. — Other ideas you all have. 😊 Bottom Line: No amount of “PRing” can cover up a lack of authentic and tangible action for important causes or commemorative months. Say it, then actually do something real.

The more I grow, the more I believe that helping people is a superpower. When we think about helping people, we may think about philanthropy and charitable actions. Now, if you talk about solving one important need for the largest number of people at the lesser possible cost: you got yourself a business. Selling is a noble art that started as the capacity to cater to people's needs. Now, it's seen as a "necessary evil" (even though it's the bloodstreams of all operations). We're celebrating various seasons of self reflection across the world (Holy week, Easter, Ramadan...). Perhaps that got me to think: What would happen if we started to measure our results not on performance indicators or financial gains, but in terms of how many people we've helped along the way? Sure, you'll be thinking that that leads to bankruptcy. But you may also find huge underperformance on the impact that your long hours really have on other people's lives. Or you'll be able to rest, proud of what you bring to the world. You know what? The most successful (REALLY successful) people I admire have managed to do both. It's incredible what real purpose driven service delivery and pragmatic business development, put together, can create. That's why kindness is a super power in my eyes. Helping people is hard, and yet many of you put yourselves out there every day and pull it off ❤️. Small business, professionals, teachers, leaders. Those who not only sell to us but actually improve our experience with it. No matter how cruel and cold this world may get, I still find plenty of kind hearted people along the way. And that's what makes life worthwhile. Not me says, Sly says! Happy beginning of Easter break everyone ✨. I can’t stand Kevin Bacon. He’s too good at his job. See, many years ago I saw the movie “Sleepers”, which, by the way, has an incredible cast, and Kevin played his role of the villain Sean Nokes so well that I can’t see him as anything other than a reprehensible, vile, degenerate. “But, M, what about Footloose? A Few Good Men? One of the greatest movies ever made- National Lampoon’s Animal House?” Yeah, yeah, I hear you, but in most of those he was a bad guy as well so… “Okay, fine. Forget movies. What about his charity organisation, aptly named Six Degrees? The entire premise of the non-profit is to bring connection and community. They empower people to bring about positive change in the lives of those around them. How is that not completely aligned with your own brand?!” Oh, it absolutely is. Totally love what they’re doing, for sure. But also…Sean Nokes was a bad dude ya’ll, and I just can’t see Kevin as anyone else now. Friends, I can’t be the only person who typecasts folks, here. Actually, I don’t think that I am. I think most of us- if we’re really honest- sometimes condemn folks to a past version of themselves. I think most of us- if we’re really honest- sometimes feel threatened by the talent of someone else. I think most of us- if we’re really honest- stick to our guns despite new information being brought forward that would require us to change our perceptions from negative to positive. This is known as positive-negative asymmetry, where we feel negative biases more readily than positive ones. We recall insults more than praise. We react more strongly to negative stimuli than pleasant ones. We tend to extend more effort unpacking a bad day than celebrating a good day. Also, Loss Aversion Theory comes into play here- as it is three times more powerful to lose something than to gain something (e.g., it’s more painful to lose $20 than the excitement we get when someone gives us $20). Meaning, we don’t want to give up our prior opinion. So…what do we do about this?! Well, I could do some research here and give you talking points and strategies from brilliant scholars, but that’s not quite my style. Nor do I think it is effective. What I think works is this: Reflection. I think I have to sit and dig into the absurdity that I dislike Kevin Bacon for being exceptionally talented to play a role so well that I cannot view him as anyone else. I have to dig into the hypocrisy that so much of what I stand for, his organisation is doing great work to create. I have to understand why it is, that despite awareness of what is going on, my stubbornness keeps getting in the way of me changing my perception. Maybe you need to do that, too. Probably it’s not Kevin and a movie role, but someone else in your life or at work. And maybe it’s not that they haven’t changed from what gave you that negative perception. This... He is sooooo....loved! So for those that have been on this journey with us and wanting to see Baby Jaxsons progress, here it is. This was taken just yesterday 29FEB2024 out at the barn. it's our daily ritual to feed/water the animals and muck the stalls out. It's hard to believe It's been over a year (16Jan2023 at 0945), since Baby Jaxson was dropped off at our door step fighting for his life with multiple fractures in his spine and broken or fractured bones in all of his extremities - the fact that this situation has not been rectified yet is enraging and severely troubling. We sure could use all the help we could get. we are so ready for this to end and in Jaxsons favor. I don't know what they could be thinking even considering putting him right back to square one, back with the same person that was in charge of his safety, that allowed this to happen in the first place. Since the incident occurred my wife and I have been granted temporary custody (shooting for full custody) of baby Jaxson and have vowed to do whatever it takes to make sure he is never put into a situation that will compromise his safety ever again. We are literally fighting for dear life to keep the system from putting him right back in the same situation, which is not as easy as it should be, but reunification is their goal. The financial burden that is resulting from this tragic situation is a mess to say the least. Any #help we could get would be greatly appreciated.! #God #bless you all!
