I’ve been trawling social media to further understand architects’ relationship with leadership and I’ve noticed something I find astonishing… They’re simply not talking about it in those spaces. I’m curious about where they may even be talking about it. I know they value it → I surveyed them. It’s got me further questioning architects’ relationship with leadership: → Are they afraid to ask or even talk about it in ‘public’? → Are they incurious about leadership? → Do they not see it as an issue for the profession? “What got us here?” I had a conversation with a new leader yesterday who was working to understand the history of his team’s complicated dynamics and the business changes that resulted in the current structure and less-than-ideal way of working across departments. Taking the time to understand “what got us here?” can help leaders recognize operational and personnel challenges and recurring issues that need to be addressed, while shaping a path for the department’s future.
