No offense but I never liked pin striped suits, to me the stripes made the suit look to "busy" to the eye........All my suits have been plain that way you can where - Any color shirt + any color tie. Any color shirt Any patterned shirt Any style of shirt including grand dad collar shirts, polo shirts and T-shirts. Any color socks with shoes. Any style of shoes from white trainers, Brogues, Oxford tie shoes, loafers, Dr Marten Brogues or Oxfords, you can even ware sandles and flips flops......Black Cow Boy boots is pushing it but they'd look ok. With the same suit = you get a lot more use out of the suit. With pin stripe I feel you're to restricted as the pin stripes just take over and dominate the look. Perhaps my style is based on the late 1980s - 1990s because then men had stylish suits and yes I still have some from that time and I love them. Wish I could ware them but now I'm a bit "Homer Simpson", porky (fat) around the waist, so the trousers don't fit......doh.

Smart post, Michael. I know there's a trend in some businesses now for the smart casual look during the working week, even when meeting potential clients. However, imho a formal suit is still a go-to if a gentleman wants to impress, in any given situation. I owned a plain navy double-breasted suit some years ago. It was one of the smartest things in my cupboard, and I would definitely have one like it today. I've seen people in the City of London wearing suits like this from May through to early July when the weather was a bit unsettled. I've never thought of this style as "fashion"; imho it's a classic gentleman's look. I recall Ralph Feinnes wore something similar when portraying John Steed in the 1998 film version of the classic 1960's television series "The Avengers". I must admit, I like the modern styling, as portrayed on the right, especially with the updated dark tan formal shoes 😎

Smart fashions imop does not evolve, its circular. This is very late 80's early 90's. Still nice but nothing has evolved here, maybe an alteration on the none standard black oxford.

Prefer the one on the right, not so 'tailored' (tight) - and no 'nipple' buttons....although trousers too short for me and like pockets with flaps...
