The Black & Veatch team has won a contract from the US Army Corps of Engineers to update the #ConceptualDesigns and perform the necessary physical and hydraulic modeling for three flood gates and one pump station in support of the Modified Central City Project in #FortWorth, TX. Once complete, these updates will help to reduce #FloodRisk to the #LocalCommunities. More on the news.

Wetlands can have major impacts on development projects. Minor disturbances to wetlands require General Permits through PADEP, while major impacts to wetlands result in Joint Permits through PADEP and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Joint Permits typically result in an elongated permitting process which can challenge development timelines. Knowing that wetlands exist on a Site along with proactive research and design can minimize permitting requirements and their respective delays. If you think you may have wetlands on your property, our professional staff can complete a wetland assessment to determine if wetlands are present on the Project Site, and if found, we can work with a broader team to formally delineate the wetlands and mitigate any impact to the Project. #sdc #design #surveying #wetlands

After an exhaustive work that includes underwater surveys and detailed structural analysis of the wreckage of the Francis Scott Key Bridge’s collapse, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers expects to open a limited access channel by the end of April. This temporary channel will measure 280 feet wide and 35 feet deep, supporting one-way traffic for the transport of automobiles and farm equipment in and out of the port. The permanent reopening of the 700-foot-wide by 50-feet-deep Fort McHenry Channel is expected by the end of May. This would lead to the restoration of port access to normal capacity. Understandably, this timeline is subject to weather conditions as well as unforeseen difficulties of the cleaning efforts. Meanwhile, other East Coast ports continue to process diverted cargo with minimum impact in their operations. #portofbaltimore #maryland #containershipping #globaltrade #seafreight #intermodal #supplychainlogistics #logisticssolutions +52 (81) 8174 8000 www.crossdock.mx

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announced they will begin water releases from Lake Okeechobee into the St. Lucie and Caloosahatchee estuaries and Lake Worth Lagoon due to high lake levels. With more than 4 billion gallons of polluted freshwater being dumped to the east and west coasts daily, drastic changes to the color and health of Florida's waterways will soon become noticeable, impacting the salinity balance, seagrass beds, and oyster habitats. This is why we need the EAA Reservoir and its Stormwater Treatment Area to store, clean, and send Lake Okeechobee's water south. We will continue to monitor the situation in the upcoming weeks and the impacts on our coastal estuaries. https://lnkd.in/eVGJrmj4

One of the biggest challenges facing U.S. waterways is historical underfunding for essential upkeep, such as dredging and infrastructure maintenance. Aging Army Corps of Engineers infrastructure poses potential risks. Furthermore, escalating traffic at aging locks can bottleneck the system. Very likely the proper approach to take!!
Environmental attorney assisting energy, transportation, oil/gas and highly regulated industries w/ regulatory compliance and litigation
The US Army Corps of Engineers is proposing to abandon its regulatory framework for compliance with the National Historic Preservation Act and instead replace it with the existing regulations from the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation. According to the Corps, this will resolve inconsistencies with its approach for NHPA compliance in permitting under the Clean Water Act, Rivers and Harbors Act, and the Marine Protection, Research and Sanctuaries Act. This approach may expand the area analyzed by the Corps during the permitting process. Proposed rule publishes Feb. 9 and comment period begins. https://lnkd.in/euYmB4E8

The U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center’s Environmental Laboratory together with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers recently created a resource aimed at streamlining wetland delineation. The Automated Wetland Determination Data Sheets (ADS) are designed to streamline and improve the accuracy and efficiency of the wetland delineation data collection and reporting process, facilitating responsible natural resource management while providing a valuable tool for the public.
