In its research, AESC asked business leaders to identify the highest impact DEI strategies in their organizations. The top three strategies are: 1. Foster a safe and inclusive environment. 2. A few months ago, I had the privilege of visiting the WSS distribution center in LA, a Foot Locker subsidiary renowned for its strong neighborhood presence. Guided by VP of Distribution, Mr. Ron Briskie, the visit was an eye-opening experience into logistics complexities and the crucial role robust supply chains play in corporate success. As an Indian Coast Guard veteran specialized in operations and supply chain, and currently an MBA candidate at USC Marshall, this visit resonated deeply. From the daily morning briefing echoing my military days to Ron's infectious passion for lean operations, everything struck a chord.   Witnessing WSS's meticulous approach, from receiving sneakers to stocking shelves, was like observing a well-oiled machine. WSS, founded by Eric Alon to serve neighborhood communities, resonated personally. Ron's leadership and dedication to continuous improvement through Kaizen techniques inspired me. Leaving WSS, I felt armed with knowledge and renewed purpose. Learning from Ron fuels my curiosity and ambition in operations. Thank you,Ron Briskie and the WSS team, for an unforgettable experience! The geographical spread can be exhausting, and can leave many Leaders feeling like they're constantly putting out fires. It’s easy to think that the more you’re in stores, the better the results. Despite visiting her Western Australian stores more often, it was her South Australian stores that were thriving. Why? Retail Today / Retail Renaissance: Not all the news in Retail was negative this week. An outstanding look at Walmart’s U.S. CEO JOHN FURNER, on LEADERSHIP. “The Walmart Way”: Promotions from within, listening and engaging associates, especially on the salesfloor. The importance of self-awareness and hardwork. Creating an environment that focuses on opportunity to grow, what I like to call “stockroom to the Boardroom”. Walmart also announced they were raising Store Managers pay with bonus to the range of $150,000 - $300,000. However your can’t “work remotely” or there’s no “quiet quitting”. (See attached) Walmart also announced their $9Billion Dollar investment in U.S. stores, is now upgrading and renovating stores throughout the country. Walmart U.S. employs 1.5 million employees in 4,700 stores, producing over $400 Billion. Last year I was selected to attend the Mid-Level Manager Symposium hosted by The Executive Leadership Council (ELC), which was designed to amplify the successes of Black professionals and empower them to create meaningful careers; I still struggle to put into words just how valuable that event was for me. Although I had so many great takeaways, the one I find myself going to back to time and time again is this concept of PIE: Performance, Impact/Image, Exposure. This model highlights the value of Performance and Impact but also expresses the importance of exposure and how it is the biggest slice of the pie. I can be doing all the right things, but if the right people aren't aware or see me as a resource, what did I gain/impact? For me, I now see this as that part of the pie with the perfect amount of crust and filling that everyone wants to get their hands on 🥧 This is the year of exposure for myself, for those that consistently do the work in silent, for my peers, the location I work in, and the groups that I am affiliated with. 2024 is the year I craft my story and expand my network!
