𝗨𝗦𝗨 𝗠𝗼𝗮𝗯 𝗔𝗰𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗰 𝗕𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗦𝘂𝗻𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗗𝘂𝘀𝗸 The Utah State University Moab Academic Building has been a hub for students and the community to learn, gather, and develop professional skills.   Designed by MHTN Architects + Lake|Flato Architects, the building is inspired by nature, oriented to reduce energy loads and designed with efficient lighting and HVAC systems powered by four solar panels that double as shading for the parking. The patio was designed as an extension of interior spaces to encourage connection with the landscape to invite students to enjoy the red-rock scenery and views to the La Sal mountains. The site was carefully designed to integrate seamlessly with the landscape around it, harvesting water where possible to support native plant and animal communities.    Since its opening in 2022, the building has been net-positive, as the solar panels produce more energy than the building consumes, with remaining power being sold back to the energy grid to serve the community.    #USUmoab #MHTNarchitects #VisionMadeReal #UtahStateUniversity #USU #HigherEducation #SustainableDesign #NetPositive #NetZero
