Tomorrow, May 1st, I am humbled to begin working with the team at Trauma-Informed Utah (TIU) - traumainformedutah.org. TIU provides critical technical assistance, education, and research to organizations and the community on trauma-informed care and services. Digging into trauma awareness, it becomes clear, very quickly, that approaching services for clients with this awareness is essential for better outcomes, stronger organizations, and more cohesive communities. It becomes a universal precaution woven into the fabric of our strategies, propelling us towards prevention, supportive environments, #socialjustice, #equity, and intergenerational well-being for all. 💎 Given the complexity of transformative change in trauma-impacted communities, aligning, leveraging, braiding, and blending resources from various sectors and sources is often necessary to sustain support for #change. This often also requires communities, potential #funders, and other change partners to shift from a scarcity mindset to an abundance mindset and can require significant action given how counter-cultural a collective approach to allocating resources can be to what those in power in communities are used to. 💎 By prioritizing systems-level prevention and investing in upstream community-based solutions, communities can lift the burdens of #trauma and re-traumatization, achieve a greater return on investment than is accomplished by merely responding to harm that has already occurred, and improve overall community #health, thus also building #resilience and capacity to future potential experiences of trauma and adversity.
