WHO WE ARE: Head In The Game is a multi-year campaign from Beyond Sport powered by Z Zurich Foundation and in collaboration with Zurich North America provides resources and training centered on prevention, promotion and attitude shifts, and building a learning community to engage at local, city, and state levels. WHAT WE DO: Head in the Game harnesses the power of sports – community, collegiate, and professional – to support teen mental wellbeing. WHY WE DO IT: Youth mental wellbeing is at crisis levels. For Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) and Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer (LGBTQ+) the rates are even higher. If you, or people you know are struggling with mental health, you're not alone. Whether you're feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or just need someone to talk to, there's support available. 💬 Asking for help is NEVER a sign of weakness; it’s one of the strongest things you can do. We believe EVERY teen deserves access to quality care but we know BIPOC and LGBTQ+ teens can feel more vulnerable. Cheers to a month of celebration and reflection, the month of honouring various aspects of our society. It's Youth Month! This is a time to recognise the energy, creativity, and potential of us young people. It's also Men's Mental Health Month, highlighting the importance of mental well-being among men, breaking stigmas, and promoting support. Moreover, June is recognised globally as Pride Month, a time to celebrate the LGBTQ+ community's resilience, diversity, and contributions. This intersection of themes is a powerful reminder of the importance of acceptance and inclusivity in our society. Acceptance is about embracing people for who they are, regardless of their age, gender, or sexual orientation. It's about creating a world where everyone feels safe, valued, and supported. By accepting and celebrating our differences, we can create a kind and understanding society for all. Let's remember to support our youth, promote mental health awareness especially among men, and stand in solidarity with the LGBTQ+ community. 57%—that’s the percent of people across 26 U.S. metropolitan areas who reported having experienced housing discrimination of some kind, per a spring 2024 study conducted by Zillow. The highest rates were reported among LGBTQ+ people, people of color, renters, and young adults. Ongoing education and outreach about federal and state fair housing laws are key. Shout out to the City of Chicopee for recently sponsoring a free three-part workshop on fair housing—held by Way Finders’ Fair Housing Manager John Fisher—to train landlords on their rights and responsibilities as owners of rental properties. Finding LGBTQ+ friendly communities is easier than ever thanks to various resources: 👉 Online Platforms: Websites like Meetup and Facebook groups are great for finding local LGBTQ+ events and groups. 👉 Community Centers: Many cities have LGBTQ+ centers offering support groups, social events, and resources. 👉 Pride Events: Attending Pride parades and festivals is a fantastic way to meet like-minded individuals. 👉 Support Hotlines: Organizations like The Trevor Project offer 24/7 support for LGBTQ+ youth. A supportive community is important for your health and wellness: 👉 Mental Health: A supportive environment reduces feelings of isolation and depression, fostering a sense of belonging. 👉 Physical Health: Stress and anxiety can take a toll on the body. A strong support system helps mitigate these effects, promoting overall well-being. 👉 Self-Esteem: Acceptance and encouragement from others boost confidence and self-worth, empowering individuals to live authentically.
