𝗔𝗜𝗔𝟮𝟰 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 MHTN’s Peggy McDonough-Jan, President, Project Architects Matt Drake and John Holbrook and Project Manager, Joel Burkhart, visited Washington D.C. to attend the 2024 The American Institute of Architects (AIA) Conference on Architecture & Design. One highlight was the tour of the National Museum of African American History & Culture. Guided by Smithsonian staff, the team learned about the museum's innovative design, sustainable practices, and its significant role in preserving African American heritage. This visit underscored the importance of architecture in reflecting and supporting cultural narratives. Keynote sessions featured inspiring speakers Arthur C. Brooks, discussing the science of happiness, Dr. Sanjay Gupta, emphasizing the role of design in promoting health and safety, and Ruth Carter, the Academy Award-winning costume designer, who spoke on the importance of storytelling and representation in design. The team also visited the new Australian Embassy, appreciating its architecture and artistic elements. This experience, among others, provided valuable insights that we will integrate into our practice, reinforcing our commitment to innovative, culturally aware, and sustainable design. #MHTNarchitects #VisionMadeReal #AIA24 #AIA #AmericanInstitureOfArchitects #WashingtonDC #AIANationalConference
