Owner of WrenRN Consulting | Fetal Heart Rate Analysis | Medical Chronologies | Nursing Standards of Care | Lending Legal Teams Nursing Expertise: from Womb to Tomb
Brief Clinician Highlight! Speech and Language Pathologists (SLPs) specialize in speech, communication and swallowing. You can find them in settings including schools, hospitals, or outpatient settings. A common assessment a SLP may complete is a swallowing assessment, where they assess whether it is safe for a patient to eat and drink certain foods, or if they need dietary modifications to prevent aspiration (food or drink entering the airway, which can cause pneumonia). For example, a SLP may recommend nectar or honey consistency thickened liquids to a patient with dementia. SLPs can also provide therapy to improve their patient’s swallowing abilities, or speech therapy to help a child with pronunciation.

What I am going to say is going to disappoint many people: I've had lots of interest in APD work from audiometrists and hearing aid dispensers/specialists who would like to do auditory processing testing and treatment and, unfortunately, this is not in the scope of practice for audiometrists/HIS in most countries. (I have edited this to remove the specific countries I had listed given that I teach an international course.) For that reason, I cannot accept anyone who isn't an audiologist or SLP into my online courses. What these colleagues can do, though, is help us identify clients with reflags and make referrals to their audiology colleagues for testing or to audiologists or speech-language pathologists for treatment. I'm so sorry if this makes you sad. I get it. x #audpeeps #audiology #slpeeps #auditoryprocessingdisorder #scopeofpractice

Our speech pathologists had a productive discussion in our group clinical supervision session today on involving parents in therapy sessions! While we see clients for about an hour at a time, parents spend countless hours with their children each week. By supporting parents to implement our strategies at home, we significantly enhance client outcomes. Our external clinical mentor guided our team discussion, sharing strategies to educate parents and adjust their expectations of therapy. It's not just about therapist-child communication; it's about teaching parents to foster language development through play and in everyday routines and environments. Research proves that parent-led interventions are most effective for enhancing children's communication skills. Discussing this as a team helps our speech pathologists feel empowered to apply these methods with their clients and problem solve as a group any existing barriers in being able to implement this evidence-based approach to come up with solutions to go and try in their practice. #speechpathology #teamwork #clientoutcomes #languagedevelopment

Young children who have speech sound disorders often have difficulty saying words with multiple syllables. In some instances, this is the result of phonological or motor planning difficulties. In general, longer words can be more challenging for all children to say. Therefore, speech-language pathologists may wish to target multisyllabic words during speech therapy sessions. Strategies for teaching multisyllabic words in speech therapy are essential to helping young children master longer words, and multisyllabic words in speech therapy activities are also highly important. 🔍If your child is struggling to say longer or multisyllabic words, or you think they would benefit from speech therapy, get started by scheduling your free introductory call today!🗣 🔗https://lnkd.in/gjwPAZrH
