🔬 Please check our latest publication providing a deeper understanding of the molecular interactions governing PEG/PPG aqueous two-phase systems (ATPS) formation! 💻 Experimental phase diagram measurements, combined with atomistic MD simulations and COSMO-RS calculations, were performed for PEG/PPG aqueous solutions to obtain direct evidence and help clarify the role of the polymers - water interactions in ATPS formation! 🌡 Phase diagrams reveal temperature-dependent transitions from type 0 to type I diagrams, indicating a shift in phase behavior as the lower critical solution temperature of PPG-water is surpassed, underscoring the critical role of temperature in phase separation dynamics. 🌐 MD simulations demonstrate how increasing water content exacerbates segregation, particularly enhancing self-aggregation of PPG due to distinct hydrogen bonding behaviors within terminal hydroxyl and ether groups. COSMO-RS calculations confirm differences in hydrogen-bonding capacity and hydrophilicity between PEG and PPG, elucidating their differential phase behavior. Metal–support interactions (MSI) in heterogeneous thermocatalysis are ubiquitous. In our latest review, just published in Chemical Society Reviews; "Metal-support interactions in metal oxide-supported atomic, cluster, and nanoparticle catalysis", we explore the intricate relationship between active metal species and their supports, and how these interactions influence catalytic performance. We critically evaluate the many subclassifications used in the field, narrowing them down to a few key physicochemical characteristics that drive observed effects. Our goal was to provide a comprehensive, tutorial-style resource that builds from foundational concepts and simplistic models to the full complexity of MSI, making it accessible to researchers at all levels, discussing the latest literature findings, and pointing out key gaps that still exist in our knowledge.
