[EoY Reflections] Newest Normal If I thought that 2022 was a challenging year, it was because I had no idea what 2023 was going to be like. If 2022 changed me, 2023 swept me away. After Meta and after a couple months in China, the work began to look for new opportunities. After working for Meta my search focused on companies that had a similar, state-of-the-art culture. I am clearly ecstatic I found a new, amazing home in Hudson River Trading, but the waiting period was quite honestly rough. I recall conversations on resilience at Meta and that helped me navigate that difficult period and spend the time focused on learning and improving my skills (and certainly refining interview skills). What made is particularly challenging was that it was not just me who was affected but so many of us. On the flip side, many did find new homes (happy but I am not surprised given the talent) and that helped buffet emotions. I continue to be very grateful to Meta and the people there and very grateful my new home and the journey ahead. Like stock markets and other volatile ecosystems, when you are in the thick of it, it’s hard to see what lies beyond. This of course raises the question of what lies ahead next year in the hopes that it will be less volatile (wishful thinking) but yet interesting and enriching. There is so much talk of “new normals” that I have come to accept that pretty much every day will be a new normal. And what do I especially want in 2024: time. There is so much innovation that there is so little time to look at everything. So, as a TPM, prioritization will be key! In the meantime I wish everyone a happy ending to this year and a happy start and great new year ahead. #reflection #2023 #yearinreview #creativity #community #tech

A single data point of job adds does not adequately articulate the health of the employment market. I would argue that investments in AI and data tools has eroded the need for knowledge workers. If the job data were segmented by industry I believe the data would show the grey and blue color jobs added and white collar sharply declined.

In August 2017, all my PRs were getting tons of pushback, nitpicking, never-ending discussions. In September 2017, all my PRs were getting accepted with positive comments. So what happened? Did I do anything different? Did I change in any way? No! I realised I was not in the right environment for me so I changed the environment. I left that company and joined Meta.
