Nine ways to think about who you are. You can also try each of the nine with saying "You are not..." and see how this changes the game. For me one of the most important lessons has been that I am so much more than my roles in my job and family, though these are always the easiest to start with when introducing oneself. In education approaching the learners with identity in mind is a powerful way to support them. Instead of teaching subjects we can think how we teach readers, writers, mathematicians, artists etc. Reading their reflections about being readers and writers was one of the joys of being a teacher. When I was a teacher, I loved writing "I am.." poems with the young writers. The poems ranged from lists to creative metaphorical images. Yesterday I was the light in a cold November night. Today I am a steam from a cup of hot peppermint tea. #identity #education #writing
