Hundreds of families prepared for the school year at the annual One Peoria event with Rep. Jehan Gordon-Booth and Sen. Dave Koehler. Students received free school supplies, uniforms, and sports physicals. They enjoyed outdoor activities including bounce houses and an obstacle course, and treats like snow cones and popcorn. We were proud to be among the local organizations supporting this event.

COALFACE WEDNESDAY. Firstly, apologies for not being too active on here. Something I am determined to make more regular and turn into one of my better habits! I introduce you to Coalface Wednesday. The perceived ‘hump’ in the week and an opportunity to share my findings on everything PE, children and activity related. You see, and many of you won’t know, that as Inspired Schools has grown over the previous 8 years, I made a personal vow to myself……. In amongst the managing, paperwork, meetings, building new projects - I would always remain at the Coalface, working with children directly, at least once a week. I have stuck to this every week as I believe it keeps me at the Coalface, in touch with education, the ever evolving landscape and in some crazy way keeps me ‘down with the kids’. First Coalface - probably one of the most controversial things that I dare talk about…… LUNCHTIME FOOTBALL I get the concerns and issues raised every day by many schools we work with; - Too competitive - Longer First Aid queues 🚑 - Issues to sort out in the afternoons - Balls flying everywhere ⚽️ ⚽️ But today has reinforced my belief in the value of that most controversial thing we talk about ⚽️ Man this game is competitive, all organised by the Year 6’s and it’s massively important! The look I receive by many when I mention ‘don’t worry what the score is’!! I see in front of me a child score a wonder goal and wheel away celebrating, finishing with the Ronaldo celebration, I see a keeper directing his defenders, players celebrating and children consoling. I see a Messi dribble. For them this is a World Cup Final 🏆 If I could ask these guys in 10 years time what their most favourite part of school was I think I would know what some of them may say. So…. Let them dream, let them play or just not practical and too many challenges and barriers?

One small change can make the world of difference. And more often than not, the change you need comes from a great teacher. At least this was the case for England centre-back Marc Guehi, who was coached by Segun, a passionate Premier Education franchisee. Check out the video from Sky Sports News, as they catch up with Segun, and other teachers from Guehi's primary school - and understand how the role of a teacher can help children to love the sport that they play, whether they go on to play for England, or whether they like to play for fun. Check out the video to hear what Segun had to say: https://hubs.ly/Q02CPdCn0
