#Meridiam has recently reached financial close on the #Aragon Roads project in #Spain, which consists of the upgrading, rehabilitation and maintenance for 25 years of an existing 183 km #road located in the province of Teruel in Aragon between the towns of Andorra (Teruel) and Mora de Rubielos. Construction will start at the end of 2024 and should be completed in the first half of 2027, although some sections will be completed earlier. The rehabilitation and reconstruction of these roads is expected to reduce overall travel time by 20% and increase #safety by improving #infrastructurestandards. It will also contribute to the region’s #growth and the expansion and diversification of regional #economicactivities, especially tourism, agriculture and agribusiness. To minimise the use of new resources and reduce overall CO2 emissions, the #recycling and #reuse of approximately 30% of the existing asphalt pavement will be part of the project specifications and requirements. It also serves the landlocked states of Chad and the Central African Republic. It is composed of 20 specialized docks (such as fisheries, fruits and vegetables, wood, shipbuilding, gas and oil…). The port is an #intermodal #hub connected by railways and roads. 🌊 The Cluster Manager of the Cluster Maritime Luxembourgeois asbl, Axelle Salvage, had the opportunity to visit the #PortofDouala during the mission of the organization What Water in #Cameroon, in which she took part for inaugurations of water infrastructures, and the promotion of digitalized solutions proposed by their Luxembourg partner, Koosmik. 🤝 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗹𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗶𝘀 𝗮𝗹𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗰𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝗯𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗼𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗶𝘁𝘀 𝗺𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿’ 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗲𝘀. From June 2009 to June 2014, Jan De Nul Group carried out dredging work in the access channel to the port. The most critical 18 km inland section of the 40 km access channel has been deepened to -7.5 meters and is permanently maintained at this level. The trailing suction hopper dredgers 𝘈𝘮𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘨𝘰 𝘝𝘦𝘴𝘱𝘶𝘤𝘤𝘪 and 𝘋𝘦 𝘓𝘢𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘰𝘶𝘴𝘦 dredged a total of 25 million m³ of mud. 💡 The CML also learned about the "𝗗𝗿𝘆 𝗣𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁", an intermodal hub project to be based in the municipality of #Ngoumou, between Douala and Yaoundé, and supported by the Council of the Center Region of Cameroon. The objective is to reinforce rail and road transportation as well as stock capacities for goods coming and going to landlocked countries, according to the decentralization policies. EV will take time to find its place in the transportation sector in PNG due to; 1. Unreliable supply of Electricity 2. Expensive rate per kWatt 3. Initial infrastructure cost to establish EV charging stations will be huge. 4. Social acceptance by wider communities in PNG will be challenging. 5. Private sector investment maybe risky unless Govt subsidies thru incentives that encourages and rewards private sector investment. PNG is gradually shifting into the Energy Transition/ Sustainable Future regime and will surely gain momentum in the coming years. Kudos CCDA, this is a step in the right direction. 💡🌏🌱🔄
Key stakeholders from diverse sectors convened in Port Moresby today to discuss the advancement of sustainable transportation solutions in Papua New Guinea (PNG). Discussions from today’s workshop centered on the development of a national e-mobility policy and strategies to address barriers hindering the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) as a sustainable transportation solution in PNG including promoting scalable investments. Details to come.. #climateaction #e-mobility #sustainabletransportation #electricvehicles #policydevelopment
