More than 30 government and local community representatives from 17 Philippine cities—Antipolo, Bacolod, Baguio, Butuan, Cagayan de Oro, Cebu, Davao, Dipolog, Himamaylan, Iloilo, Muntinlupa, Naga, Ormoc, Quezon, Tacloban, Tacurong, and Tagbilaran—pledged to work within their respective communities to gather data needed to build better infrastructure for walking and cycling. LEZs, ULEZs, ZEZs and CAZs are multiplying in Europe. And this trend is no longer restricted to major conurbations, it is also gaining traction in mid-sized cities. In addition to boosting the share of low and zero emissions vehicles in urban environments, it also favors the use of shared mobility solutions, be they with 4, 3 or 2 wheels. In Italy, for example, according to the Italian National Observatory of Shared Mobility, there was a remarkable 41% increase in shared mobility trips in 2022. The European Shared Mobility Index reveals that "free floating" bikes recorded the strongest growth in Europe in the first quarter of 2023, with 33% year-on-year increase in trips. In-station bicycles use also increased significantly, by 12%. Urban access regulations in European cities are a clear invitation to enlarge our range of mobility solutions to support individuals and businesses in their daily moves. 📃 Public Transport and Shared Mobility: European Guidelines and the TPG #CaseStudy in #Geneva The European Commission's Expert Group on Urban Mobility (EGUM) has published a comprehensive set of #recommendations to enhance public transport through the integration of shared mobility and to utilize the #SocialClimateFund in support of public transportation. These recommendations encompass various guidelines focusing on the future of public transport and #inclusive and #sustainable urban space, urban vehicle access regulations, and more. They align seamlessly with the SUM Project’s objectives, highlighting the need to complement public transport with #sharedmobility. These guidelines highlight an exemplary case from one of our project partners in the #LivingLab of Geneva, tpg transports publics genevois (TPG). 👇 🚲 In 2023, the Canton of Geneva, through tpg transports publics genevois, partnered with Donkey Republic aiming to provide commuters with efficient and sustainable transportation options, thus reducing congestion and pressure on public transit during peak hours. Free transit is a solution❗ But what about modal shift... Since December 21, 2023, Montpellier, Ville, Métropole et CCAS has introduced free public transport for its residents. TWO objectives : 1️⃣ Promoting sustainable mobility 2️⃣ Reducing the city's carbon footprint. The first objective seems to have been achieved, and even beyond expectations❗ ✅ In the first quarter of 2024, the ridership of TaM Montpellier 3M buses and trams increased by 23.7% compared to the same period last year. ✅ As a bonus, a decrease in uncivil behavior! These impressive figures, however, have already sparked debate on social media when some raise the question of modal shift. Indeed, this figure does not indicate the proportion of motorists who have abandoned their cars in favor of TaM public transport. ➡️ Is this also raised? ➡️ Does TaM have the ability to estimate this statistic? Nevertheless, we would like to salute the #Montpellier Métropole, to offer these services for their 500,000 inhabitants. 👏 Congratulation for this game-changer ! And you, what do you think?
