The next generation of electric off-highway vehicles for agritech, construction and similar need extremely compact and high torque drives. To avoid expensive and risky R&D projects, and reduce time to market of the vehicle and service, they also need to be designed for the tough environment and be easy to integrate onto cutting edge technology vehicles. Definitely an interesting play for low power applications... the low noise could definitely be a plus in certain environments. I'm really curious to learn what's underneath like who the Tier I suppliers are and what kind of CANbus the "autonomous functions" support run on.

First, some background to this electrifying story: What does the acronym (GSE) stand for? Ground Support Equipment. What is Xcēd GSE (Schaumberg, IL.)? Xcēd GSE is a company that provides GSE solutions to one sector of the airlines and aviation industry, the aviation ground support sector. What is the aviation ground support sector? You know when you are flying somewhere and sitting in your seat readying to take off and you look out the window and see all these people scurrying across the tarmac moving cargo and bags and jets with strange little trucks and flags and flashlights and hand signals? That's the aviation ground support sector. What is Oshkosh Aero Tech, LLC (Oshkosh, WI.)? They are a leading original equipment manufacturer (OEM) of ground support equipment for the airlines and aviation industry. Both commercial and military airline equipment for cargo loading, aircraft towing, de-icing, you name it. They build the OEM equipment Xcēd GSE acquires and in turn leases to the airline industry through their comprehensive airport ground-support-management programs and services. Now to the story . . . Why were the folks at Xcēd GSE visiting their OEM equipment supplier Oshkosh Aero Tech yesterday? They went to see the new prototype B80 Electric Cargo Tractor Oshkosh Aero Tech is building for them! You know, those square squatty things driven by guys with aviator sunglasses and sound-deadening headphones that belch diesel smoke as they scoot around the tarmac moving jets and cargo? Well Oshkosh Aero Tech and Xcēd GSE as their first customer are taking them electric! A high-voltage Bravo! to both companies for working toward cleaning up the polluted air around our airport terminals! Maybe Elon Musk can help too.
